The magic formula "rebuild in a bottle" stuff works just long enough to sell a clunker to a sucker, if at all. IMHO.

But just trying to free the rings with some kind of penetrant, on a one-time basis, might be worth trying on an engine that has been setting.

Like I said, we all got our opinions...

FWIW, Kreen is a solvent, not an additive per se. Most wouldn't make the distinction. But it worked for me on two very different vehicles with two very different issues. Maybe I just lucked out- it's entirely possible. But lots of money remained in my pocket.

And it's probable that your engine is simply a little tired that you get the smoking.

A smoking engine? Reminds me of an ad for a car placed in the free paper (ie, hippie oriented) back in the early 70s. Fellow was advertising an old VW and part of the vehicle's description was: "...smokes a little, but doesn't everyone?" Sign of the times.

Im not entirely sure if the smoking is due to sitting a lot or due to tired motor. Like I've stated earlier as far as I know this motor has never been rebuilt in the last 54 years, which id say is a pretty good life span for an antique motor. Last time I adjusted the valves I was able to wiggle some of the ones in the block a bit so that could tell me something. The owner before me claimed to have owned it little more than 3 years and said It sat most of that time. I bought it running driving and drove it home late December 2011 for $2000. And ive driven the you know what out of it ever since and have had plenty of fun with it. About 3 months after I bought it I replaced the instrument gauge assembly with a NOS one off ebay and ive clocked 2600 miles on it since then to and from work as a fun toy. So basically im guessing its probably a combination of the two, sitting and tired. And I bought the Mercury brand Power Tune today and a set of spark plugs today and will be buying Marvel Mystery Oil this weekend and doing all that this weekend. But, I will probably still be going the rebuild route later this year anyways. Im perfectly content with spending $2000 for a rebuild every 54 years :p
