Great site guys...I joined last week because I finally managed to sell my 94 F350 diesel money pit & pick up an older CJ5...(1966) I've been looking for a couple months & finally found one that I could live with...it's got a V6, which engine, I'm not entirely sure yet because I haven't tried to ID it but it does have an even firing order (maybe) so I'm pretty sure it's not an odd fire...but hey...you never know... It's also got an overdrive unit in it...I'm still trying to sort out the issues I'm having with it, but overall it seems to be basically a pretty solid base to start with.
The PO was definitely not an electrician though...of that I'm certain. The brake light/turn signal feed was wired to the running lights terminal & the feed to the steering column consisted of 5 spliced wires from the fuse box, (brand new "painless" fuse block)...:D I also just got done putting in a new alternator with internal regulator because the "new one" the guy had wired in, was for an external regulator but the problem there was that there was no external regulator......right now, I've got the lights/signals working great & the alternator seems to be working properly. I cut the ammeter wires & put in a voltmeter & it appears as though my immediate concerns of frying my electrical system & maintaining a charge are solved...:stout: ....no questions yet, but they'll be coming shortly... I'm gonna need to put power steering in...;) The things I really like about this jeep are that it's smog exempt, the engine is good (rebuilt???) & there's a whole bunch of new parts that are worth more than I paid for it...it's 10X easier to work on than my old diesel & I'm not gonna need a code reader to figure out what the problem is...:p

Oh yeah...I'm not gonna need a step ladder to access the engine compartment...:stout:

Welcome from Ga. That don't look like a 1966 jeep to me. Wrong windshield- wrong grill for starters although it has lots of mods. Good looking jeep.fb

FYI - odd and even fire V6's have the same firing order. Get some block numbers and more information to post if you have concerns.

Welcome from Florida. Kinda new myself. Picked up a '65 a couple of months ago. Funny thing the turn signals. I think he must have wired mine too. Every time I'd step on the brake the front running lights would come on. Hehehe. I ended up pulling it all and redoing proper. Sadly though, two weeks later the blinker relay went kaput. Such is the joys of owning an antique. Have fun and enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome guys... FWIW, I think the hood's different too. I looked on craigslist for a couple of months before I found one that fit my bank account and wasn't in too bad of shape...being both old & poor, made it a tough job.

Today, I need to finally get underneath it & have a look-see at what little surprises I can find...I've had a few jeeps in the past but never did much work on them. The depth of knowledge & expertise you guys have is a great resource...thanks in advance.

Welcome bro.. And the even/odd fire thing is not an ingnition thing, it's engine design.. Odd fires have 3 crank journals 120 degrees apart in a 90 degree block.. mathematically this makes the firing impulses "ODD" versus the even fire that has the crank journals split into 6 journals in a 90 degree block to even out the firing impulses.

Welcome...good-looking Jeep. When I first got mine the fenders were cut off too. Like yours, but cut further back so that you could actually see the profile of the sheet meatal from the front. I never liked that and thought that if they had been cut like yours, they would've looked much better. Seeing yours confirms it. If you're gonna cut 'em without welding in a tube, that's the place to do it, IMO.
