I have had an ongoing fuel problem on my 1957 cj5 . I proactively coated the fuel tank with POR, unfortunately it began to peel which in turn clogged the fuel filters. I had to remove the tank and had it baked out and blasted clean. The question is: my inline fue fuel filter before the carb, has almost no fuel in it when the engine is running. Is this normal ? I also replaced the fuel pump. The only other thing is to clean the pump screen

I dont know if its normal or not, but the same thing happened to me.
I checked the whole system for air leaks then disconnected the fuel line at the carb, filled the line up manually and then quickly reconnected it to the carb.
This bled all the air out... and sated my OCD.

I have no idea if its necessary or not.

I've often observed this over the years, and have stopped worrying about it.

I suspect it may be the pump vacuum vaporizing the fuel, but can't say for sure. It would be great to know.

I have had other other vehicles and equip which all seem to have more fuel in the filter when to motor is running . Maybe I too have OCD.

I have one of those glass filters and it never looks full either but the engine runs well.
