picked up a 72 cj5 few months ago and im about to start a minor resto. jeeps body and frame are in great shape! very little to no rust! my first question for anyone is. I have a dautless in it with 4 speed tanny and as far as i can tell they stopped putting the dauntless in in 71. the motor looks original it runs great i am just wondering if this was something a previous owner put in or is it factory?

If it's a '72, it should be an AMC engine - either the 232 or 258 inline six, or the 304 V8. The V6 ended with the 1971 model year. Jeep sold the V6 tooling back to GM.

There was a 4-speed option in 1972, but only with the inline 6s.

Post up your VIN and we can positively identify what you have.

I would hope it's a 71, 225 is the bomb, and the 4spd is just icing on the cake. IMO.
