I put my hood on this weekend and I have a 3/4-1" gap between my hood and fender on both sides. I cant figure out why, aside from the obvious of the hood or fenders are to short.

I have fenders, hoods, and grills of various vintages. The body is bad fiberglass repro but shouldnt affect gap right on the grill. I measured the height of a CJ3A grill and its the same as the MB grill in the photo from the frame mount up. I measured 3 other fenders and they are the same along the dimension where they angle out, along the edge marked in the photo. I measure another hood and its the same depth as the hood in question on the jeep. It looks like I need fenders that extend another inch along the angled portion. The left side (right in photo) is the same. Any ideas?

There have been problems with the reproduction hoods. Rommel Juan has fixed the issues and the improved ones will be on the market shortly. You must have bought yours before the fix. The bend isn't correct.

I dont think thats a repro hood, I know the tub is. The hood has the snorkel cutout and old military numbering along the side. I parted out 3 rust bucket jeep, taking what I could and none of them had any parts which looks reproduction, just covered in rust.

I have a very similar problem. Stock everything. The hood was dented in the middle but the repair should not have caused an increase in the gap between the fenders and cowl. Same as jwinsley, I'm looking for ideas.....

Oh ok. It looked like a repop in the pictures with the black primer that is used on them.

Ryan I still think there is a hinge issue. Also they didn't fit very well from the factory. You aren't going to find even, 1/8 gaps everywhere like a modern car.

One thing I know you don't want to hear, if the front of the frame has been bent upwards, like what you'd see doing Rat Patrol reenactments, the hood fit is going to be awful.

I'm pretty sure the frame is OK. The hood fit perfectly before I did my overhaul. I'd like to get my hands on another hood to see if it fits or not. At least then I could determine if the hood itself is indeed the problem.

I have the same issue on the Blue '49 - and I have seen it quite a bit over the years. Mostly happens when there has been a mix and match with the fenders. You can help it with tweeking the center and as Bill said, working on the hinge. Also verify the fender is slid UP all the way in the slots (we tend to mount them on the down side).

In the picture of the jeep you posted looking towards the front end, it looks like you have a gap between the top of the hood and the flat part of the cowl behind the firewall, is that how high it sits with the hinge bolted on to both the body and hood? Did you raise it to level the hood coming back from the grill? I was thinking about telling people it was done for cooling like the Baja Bugs (VW) where the engine cover is raised a little off the body.

The hinge holes and the cowl holes line up the way they were originally, meaning the hinge shouldn't sit up any higher now than it did before the work was done. I know extra bracing was added to the underside of the hood and I'm concerned that it changed the contour of the hood which results in the gap. I've been using the "superior cooling" excuse too. Here's better "before" and "after" pics.

About the only thing holding it up that high is the grill.

I think that's most of your problem.

I'd agree with the bracing causing it. It looks like it is not as "relaxed" as it used to be. Too stiff across the middle. I guess it seems like if the middle would relax, the sides would flair out a touch more and it would fit better. That might just be the picture angles.
