If only for a what if scenario...

i just had a thought of supersizing a jeep cj5 or cj7 or any wrangler for that matter, to the size of a full size blazer. has anyone else even thought about such a project? i know this would go against almost everything that a jeep is known for, lighweight, small and mobile, but would be a family friendly one off project that would definitely draw some attention.

ive been looking at all options, full width axles, stretching the wheelbase etc. but what if i split the tub down the center and added a foot to the middle or whatever it would take, as well as splitting it behind the front seats and stretching it to have roughly the same amount of room a cj5 has behind the front seats with the rear removed with the rear seat in place with a moderate amount of foot room for teen aged kids or whatnot. if you had the old aluminum hard top, you could do similar to the top and have a really cool FSJ that looked like a cj5 ot cj7 etc. back seat access would come from the fold up passenger seat as it does now. could run full width axles but make it look like a stock cj5 in the manner of not having flares on it and having 35s tuck underneath the fenders on full width axles.

this would also require a one off frame but 2x4 tubing could easily be stretched and widened to accomodate the earlier flatter bodies. an old flat fender would look cool as well done this way. throw a v8 or diesel in it and have the ability to tow my horse trailer and such.

The Jeep is normal sized. The guy is just really small.

I have seen pics of it done. IIRC it was a TTC vehicle or at least someone trying to get in. It looked a bit odd because it had way too many slats in the grill.

Pretty sure that was the TTC Jeep I was thinking of - but funny they didn't mention it.

    I think it's the grille that I don't like.

anyone here any good with photo shopping pictures? my MS Paint skills suck.

I am having a thought to make this a 4 door, CJ7 doors up front with cj5 doors out back. ive seen 4 door cj7s but i think if i use cj5 doors in the rear, i can start the wheel wells with the curve of the cj5 doors, similar to a jeep cherokee, and that should shorten it up a bit. the more i run this through my head, the more i want to do it. looking at Tahoe or H1 sized. will be quite the long project for one guy in a 2 car garage.

wife keeps asking why i dont just buy a tahoe? she just doesnt understand...

I don't care for any of it, one of the great things about jeeps is they are smaller and fit better on the tight trails. Not my thing but there is allot of fab work on that thing!!!

I absolutely agree. I never even like full width axles under CJs. When the woods are tight, they are more hindrance than help.
