    All,

I've been fighting myself with the idea of sealed LED bee hive turn signals vs the pseudo stock incandescent ones I have.

I was repairing the cracked lense earlier today, and it is brittle throughout. Salvaged and shiny now, but 40 plus year old plastic... I see it being a continued issue down the road.

My old light bases are now cleaned, polished, in need of new bolts and dust seals.

I figured LED bee hive turn lights would be easy to find... Ha!

The rear round can LEDs were easy.

United Pacific industries makes a pile of led stuff, most looks like it is for tractor/trailer use. 2", 2.5" to big... I don't need Lights for a Kenworth.

Anyone have any luck finding a source?

I found LED bulbs in the 1157 size, and they're but a few bucks, but something that is dust-proof wouldn't be bad...

    Thoughts?
    thanks.

    Dane

I'm in the same boat with the blue '49. The red rear ones are easy to find, the 2 way front amber are a PITA to find. I got a square one that I may have to use, not real thrilled, but I have not found anything else.

OK. Frustration with technology. Here's a few pictures.

lens type: APSO SAE PD64A HL (2 7/8 inch diameter)
stainless / chrome mount: 3 inch diameter
lens retained by a single wire spring (broken circle shaped, about 1/16" diameter wire)

Beehive lens: 2 7/8" (2 7/8 inch), measured from the other side also... (measure twice)
    (repaired crack visible here)

Letters on the 2 inch beehive lens: APSO SAE PD64A HL
    [IMG]

Looks like lens is 1 3/8 inches or so tall
    [IMG]

Here's the base: APSO HL SAE PD 64 A
    [IMG]

Other numbers on the base, Not sure what they read... Anyone?

looks like it's 3 inches across... (measured from the other side also!)

Grill Turn Signal / Parking Light Mount Hole: 1969 CJ5 spacing is about 2 1/4 inches

Danefraz - I have those exact lights on one of my rigs, but can not find a replacement part number for them (even with std bulbs) either.

All of the LED lights I have found with both circuts are too big IMOP. I am tempted to set them up just as a single circut flasher, though I would like the park light ability.

Could be - I'll have to ping him tomorrow on them. Right now, I don't care if they are LED or not.

I wonder if I can change the bulb post to allow them to be dual circut (park and turn). I stumbled across the ones I have on the '51 and have not found them since. They look just like the CJ5 ones, and for me, I don't care if they are exact 3A parts. Just want dual circuts.

This is the same thing I was thinking too... Nice to have lamps and signals.
i saw a posting on Walcks4wd.com for someone to call to do the dual...I think...

    http://206.214.209.238/~uapac/site/...=8926&osCsid=1242980f4e37f9bd99d0949923316e88

This is the LED lamp I have tried to find, with no luck. Tried finding it in beehive also. This site is the united pacific industries site. Several sites carry their stuff, but not all of it. Looks like some of their stuff has different model numbers at different vendors... PITA to distill.

    Was fed up looking.

I called united pacific. Sound like very good folks. They suggested calling big rig chrome (http://www.bigrigchromeshop.com/) or summit racing, giving them the united pacific product number and then they will get to us via order.

Going to ping Summit. Will post my results.

Ok, so my OCD has a pseudo answer.

Called summit. Talked to Hal. Friendly guy. They added it to their system. Good folks it seems to work with. They will have pricing sorted out tomorrow and will call me back. It sounds like the store front is in Reno, and the back office is in Ohio, where they set the prices. Item will drop ship if they do not have it in stock.

Will order the light kit, make a little stainless bracket out of some hobby sheeting for mounting on the back side of the grill (the studs are 1 4/5 apart) which should fit through the main hole. Light diameter hopefully covers existing mount holes. May use some gasket material or something between grill and light kit, and my fab'd mount bracket.

    Has three wire capability.

    More to come...

Before I was able to post... Hal called back. Around $30 each.

    Summit Internal part number... UPD-39782

Can't be found on their site, you have to call. It is an extra $10 for the special order, but their return policy is very good with regular parts, not sure with special orders.

I ordered two. Drop shipping from United Pacific. Will be here by Monday. Will mock up on grill and shoot photos and post when they arrive.

I also ordered the omix rear clear backup light while I was chatting them up.

    We shall see.

If you're interested and can't wait before I post pictures, Hal's extension is 6832. Summit is 800.230.3030

I'll wait and see what you end up with. Summit has always treated me right no matter what it was, but I don't 'need' them till spring as I probably won't wheel that rig this winter.

    All,
My apologies for the rookie move, but I posted what follows also in my build thread... the update with the LED dual function lights...
    http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/showthread.php?99079-69-Dauntless-Project-the-Heep/page5

bulk of post is now here.

Here are pictures of the LED light replacements I am considering.

You may have to turn your monitor on its right edge occasionally for perspective.

This is a good show of where the new mount sits relative the old mount. I think the extra visibility may be worth the two new holes. Anyone else's thoughts?

    size difference is apparent here.

    Just a little bit wider
    [IMG]

WOW! It's a bit taller, like almost 2" taller.

Here's a small piece of stainless sheet I have that I was thinking of fabricating a second mount on the back of the grill.

Just my little layout lines made with dry-erase to get an idea where I need to cut and fold... and drill.

No dust or water getting in through this sealed unit.

I didn't see this o-ring until I was noodling around doing something else and it fell out.

    Here's the foam mount
