Tires choices.............again.

I have searched this forum and others and found alot of threads regarding tire sizes. Before I go ahead and pull the trigger on a new set for myself I thought I would ask my own question. I have 5 of the 16"x5" wheels and my jeep has no lift. I am not looking for a big tire but at the same time am not impressed with what I have read about the performance of the NDT's. I would like a tire that is in the 29 to 30 height range and I would like to keep it as narrow as possible(like the bias ply tires of old). Has anyone had any luck with the 225/75R16 tires out there on wheels of my size? I have had mine checked out by a couple tire shops and the wheels are sound and will hold air. The 215/85R16 appear to be a little tall. Does anyone have any pics? Any thoughts or specific tire choices would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

tires that look cool, tires that work, tires that wont stress wheel bearings, axles and such is an agonizing decision. My observation is that big lugged tires wear out really, really fast if you drive on pavement.
Its simply a matter of being realistic about how you drive your Jeep, and where you drive it. A simple matter of the your expectations.

As far as bigger lug tires wearing out faster Maxx is right. They usually lack the siping to keep the tires cooler and extend the tire life that other tires have.

That said, I got 40-50k out of my BFG MT's. On my CJ-5, heck on the truck I sold Sandhills they would've dry rotted first before wearing out. R)

You can add sipes to a MT style tire though too FWIW. Plenty of how tos on the web and some tire places do it.

Don't forget that with those tall, stiff, bias-ply vintage-look tires, you get to experience that vintage ride quality we all want (not!)

I don't mind the ride when the tires are warmed up, just hate the nylon flat spotting when cold. It's like riding on square tires.
