Anyone know where I can get a clear fuel filter for the '71 w/V6? All the clear ones I've seen at the FLAPS have smaller, 1/4" tubes on 'em. Looking for 5/16. Thanks!

Try Summit Racing, P/N SPE-2369. It's a clear in-line with 3 sizes of barbed fittings. It can yours for only $7.95. I use this on my sandrail.

I bought mine at Autozone or Pepboys in the aisle with all the chrome engine stuff. It is clear glass with replaceable filters and has 3 different size barbs that come with it. Matter of fact it is most likely the one listed above ;)

I think I got mine at Myjers. Clear glass, chrome ends, replaceable filters, but it had the 5/16 ends on it I thought. No universal barbs.

I'd sell you the one I have but the shipping wouldn't be worth it. R)

[personal opinion] I avoid those glass filters like the plague. The guy that Lynn told us about burning to death comes to mind here. The stamped metal ones are cheap and small enough to carry extras. [/personal opinion]

[second opinion] those glass jobs scare me too - but I've never seen one break. Don't really want to either. [/second opinion]

Third opinion on the glass. Just seems like there's too much for it to vibrate against.

I run a big, clear plastic one from the FLAPS.

Well heres my twist on this, 1st off the one on the V6 shouldn't be hanging in front of the engine like it does with that so called heat shield in front of it, half the starting problems I ever had with my motor were caused by vapor lock and this thing being right in front of the motor from the factory. You can use one of these fine but I recommend placing it over the top of the intake, about 4" over the top of the intake where nothing can touch it but you, throw the heat shield away as it just makes the fuel pump harder to get to and is another 5oz of un needed weight. This was the first motor from the factory that I ever saw with the fuel filter in front of the block. Most of them are about 3-6" from the carb hanging over the intake, where they should be, if they are placed there banging around is not a problem, I have had several of these over the years and have never seen one break, old John Deere and Ford tractors came from the factory with glass fuel filters on them, my dads 1953 John Deere still has the factory original on it and lord knows its taken a heck'uv a pounding over the years.

Forth Opinion: Ditto--same as the first 3. I just use the stamped metal ones. If the engine stops running, it's easy to undo the hose clamp and check for fuel.

And ditto on Mcruff's location. Mine is sort of 1/2 way between as I have a BIG aircleaner.

I've also run the plastic ones for years and never had a problem--very tough resistant plastic.
