I have a 1974 renegade that's in very original condition...and i believe that the brake system is all original but im not sure, so i thought some of you guys could let me know for sure. It has factory power brakes (all drums and appears to be stock. The brake booster is a bendix unit with 9081 stamped on it. The master cylinder has what looks like "28883" and "made in the USA" cast on the bottom and "03973 c" as well.

I assumed the the brake booster to be correct after taking to some local jeep guys, so i had booster Dewey in Oregon restore it. It came back correct and looking brand new.

The master cylinder is questionable as to whether it is original or not. If it is correct I was going to have it restored. If not I'd like to know what/where to get the correct one. I want the jeep to have all the correct vintage parts on it.

    Thanks for your expertise.
    Jim

All I've ever seen are rebuilt units. I have a NAPA rebuilt waiting to be installed. It says BENDIX and 2227001 on the bottom and retains the earlier boss on the bottom for the earlier brake switch.
I wouldn't obsess too much beyond that. It would be a shame to let the jeep sit while you scrounge up a NOS master cylinder.
The part# listed in the factory parts book is 1 812 4845 if that can assist your search

Thanks for the advice. I did just that and got the rebuilt bendix one you have. It looks like the one that came off of the jeep. The other one ( that I need to return ) looks totally different and has china cast on it. I didn't want that one on the jeep. Thx again!

.... I had forgot to mention that I bought a new one from checker auto that was incorrect looking and made in china...which is why I wanted to find the exact "correct" one. The rebuilt one from napa looks correct. Thx for the help.

    Cool!
If you want to keep the new look of the master cylinder to go with the booster, give it a coat of satin clearcoat to keep it from rusting.
