Hi, me again with some more brainbuster questions. First where can I find a replacement fuel pump for my Dauntless V6, it crapped itself this morning when I tried to fire it up. Also the fuel tank that I pulled out of the CJ was full of gunk and was considering replacing it but when I find the underseat gas tank for the right model/year it says at the end (excluding V6) Whats that about, is there a major difference in like fuel pipe size coming out of the tank. Thanks for any answers. :D

Fuel pump, try NAPA, Autozone, CarQuest etc.

    Return line inlet?

There are some very suttle differences between the 4cyl and V6 tanks. As Sparky mentioned, the return line, being one of them. This can be solved by installing a bulkhead and a small piece of tubing for a return line. If you're not going for a strict restoration, consider a poly tank. It'll never rust. It's much easier to install a return line (Got Silicone?). And they're about the same price as steel.

Yup, most replacement (under seat) tanks don't have a fitting for the return line. You could use one of these, and add a fitting in the sending unit for a return.

or get a pump that doesn't return fuel to the tank and use the 4 cyl tank.

  8. They do make a replacement tank (steel) that has the return line in it. But it's no big deal to have a radiator shop braze one in if you need or want it. Personally, I like them--solves vapor lock problems. But, the choice is yours. If you don't want a return line then get a 2 port pump only, or you can block off the return line.

Like I said, either way, it's no big deal.

I just replaced my fuel pump with one from NAPA.. I had to bend a new line as it fed from a different position.. On the other hand I found out that the old fuel pump was still good, and I think I still have it..

Well Im trying to find a direct replacement to the one thats on my Dauntless V6. The fuel tank I dont think it does have a return line because when I took it out there was only one pipe coming out of the bottom of it. Also this is the fuel tank Im looking at #912008

That's the one without the return line but has the bottom feed and drain. I just ordered it a couple of days ago for my jeep. I have an electric fuel pump so I don't need the return line to keep the fuel cool to prevent vapor lock.

  12. I believe, but don't quote me, that all :v6: had the return line. BTW, it enters the tank from the TOP, not the bottom. A 1/4" pipe screws to a fitting to the front of the fill neck, then goes to the sill and bends down thru a 1" hole in the floorboard. From there it connects to a rubber line to the return line.

So I can use the tank I picked out but could just drill a hole in the filler neck and place a fitting for a return line?

  14. Yup!!! Best to have a radiator shop do it as they can install the correct "compression" fitting for you. It's no big deal if you want a return line.

Forgot, I can snap some pics for you tomorrow (it's raining out now :( ) to show the location of it if you want. Just let me know.

Well, I would only do the return line if it was necessary, if it is then ill do it. That would be great if you could get some pictures. Thanks :D

heh one more question: On one web page or ad in a magazine I saw a steel gas tank and it was under "1967-19-- CJ5 gas tank (V6)" Will it fit my 1966 CJ5, I think it will but my dad wants me to ask you guys.

All early CJs with factory V6 should be the same application.

  19. Tuxman: 1st pic is of top of tank. I think you can see the relationship of the return line to the filler neck. That little piece of light is the hole in the floorboard that the metal line goes thru. \\

The 2nd pic is underneath showing the return line.
