Ok , so I disassembled the Dauntless 225 so I could check it out and regasket everything , Now I'm thinking I might want to replace the rings.
My question is ,, can I just knock down the ridge at the top of the cylinder ( very minimal ridge ) and replace the rings ? If so,, would I use a standard size ring ?
I'm interested to see if other guy's have done it this way , an how it worked out for them . I'd appreciate any input !
    Thanks ,, Dan

Sometimes the ring will clear the ridge and sometimes it won't. I prefer to remove the ridge with a ridge cutter. I also am a firm believer using file fit rings. Depending on the taper of the cylinder I would set the gap to the the smallest measurement of the bore. Also measure top middle and bottom and find out exactly how much taper you have and what max bore is for whatever size piston your using.

I was plannnig on using the original pistons , a ridge reamer , and do a quick hone of the cylinders , install new rings and button it up.
the motor ran good when I got it , and doesn't show a lot of wear inside . I just thought that while I have it apart , now is the time .
Thanks for the input , Dan

You may want to look into using a rigid hone. They do a better job than a flex hone. Also.. if you are gonna do rings, you might as well check the rod/main crank bearings out and measure the journals for wear.
