    Question?
I fastened the stay cable (cable between the bell housing and transmission mount)and then went for a drive, the clutch sounds like a throwout bearing going out.
The transmission is also making funny sounds.
I remove it and not more sounds, is it possibe that i have the tension to tight?
Any ideas?? Do I really need this cable?
    Oh ya, 1966 CJ5 225 3 speed T86/Dana20
New clutch throwout bearings ETC. ETC
    Hydraulic clutch as well.

    Thanks.
    Terry

If you look at the forked mount on the cross-member where the ball end of the cable mounts you will notice that the bracket is not very heavy metal. If you over-tighten the cable it will just bend the bracket. If everything is right, then tightening this cable should have no effect on TO/Tranny. The thing is though that over-tightening can shift things around if you have loose bolts /broken tranny mount etc. As you have the Hyd clutch is very puzzling. Are you maybe torquing the shift tower over to the floor cover amplifying the sound?

I believe it's original design was to hold the drive train in it's set position in case of a sudden stop such as a collision. Some claim it stops rear wheel hop when backing up.

I chucked mine years ago and haven't noticed any "un-approved" behaviour. I think it's called a torque cable. If all your other mounts are in good shape I can't see that the cable really does anything.
