O.K. Guys, hope this is the right forum for this question. I did do a search and I did read the technical resources first.

I understand the windshield differences and have a good supply of extra good windshield frames.

I am only keeping one CJ5, which is our Tux.

I have two soft tops that I think we bought with the intention of having a top on the Tux again.

    Here's the question...

How can I know by looking at either of these tops if they are what I need? I have a lot of people that have bought jeeps from me eying these and I'm sure I could sell them if they are not right.

Can you give me a photo or something to compare to what I have?

From what I'm gathering it's not the length that I'm concerned with, but the top of the windshield frame with which to attach to top. Is that correct?

    Thanks!

    Beth

Beth, the newer windshields tilt back more, and the sides slant in from the cowl. The glass is more of a trapezoid rather than a rectangle.

There may be something about the doors that can make a positive ID. Otherwise, the length of the cloth across the top of the windshield may be useful. The length of the roof cloth would be different, but you'd have to compare two tops of the same brand/model form the two eras to use that measurement.

Ugh. Thanks, Tim. I wanted a magic potion.

Guess I need to try so I can put them in the get rid of or keep pile.

Beth, the easiest way to tell is from the doors, if the doors have a flap that snaps to the front of the door opening on the tub it is for 55 to 75. also the door frame mounts in the hole in the door opening not to a hinge mounted on the outside of the tub. Clear as mud right ?

I have zero experience with the later tops, but certainly the 55-75 door bottoms pivot in a hole in the tub. Seems that captain cj is saying that the later tops use an external hinge bracket at the bottom of the door.
