Finally got it!



Now to build the bumper. Going to integrate a roller fairlead as I don't care much for the hawse type and want to be able to run the rope under the rig if need be.

are you going to run steel or synthetic cable?

 

It came with synthetic-its behind the winch in the pic-100' of 3/8's. I have been using steel for 40 some years and will now have synthetic on 2 of the 3 Jeeps this year. No doubt going to take some re-education on use.

 

I know they say specifically not to run a roller fairlead with synthetic. Or at least they used to... Might want to check that.

 

I think that has been proven to be total bunk. The rollers need to be smooth and the clearence between the rollers tight so they can not pinch the rope, but otherwise, I still believe the rollers are far superior to a hawse. Hawse have only one advantage-they are a lot cheaper to make.

Since I plan on building the fairlead directly into the bumper, I am going to make the horizontal rollers a bit wider than standard so I get more inset on the verticals to help eliminate any pinching. That said, I have not had a problem with the standard roller configuration on the 3B 8274. Will make the rollers out of acetal copolymer-same stuff I used for the 8274.
