Spark Plugs and Wires

What plugs and wires are yall running on your stock 304 with no hei upgrade? I need to change mine

 

Before I went HEI, it ran just fine with a set of NAPA generic wires and factory spec Champion plugs. Infact, I'm still using the same plugs.

 

I presume this is a 72-73-74 with the Delco points distributor? For the factory Delco ignition, my preference would be Standard or Delco. The Standard wires are only $10.86 on RockAuto - Delco is about twice as much.

 

Yes. This is a 73. I saw the wide range of costs so that's why I ask. I appreciate the input

 

I had AC Delcos before HEI, now im runnin champions with HEI. no real reason for the change other then i run champs in all my other vehicles and never have problems.

 

Personally I'm not a fan of champion plugs, I like Bsoch supers, they are a copper core and have better thermal and electrical conductivity than most but almost any plug will be fine in a stock application. I do however tend to lean towards the more expensive wires (MSD, Taylor etc..) even in stock applications just due to the huge difference in the resistance of the wire and overall quality. I have had many failed plug wires over the years. Anyhow, in reality unless you are running a high compression motor where you need to overcome cylinder pressure to form the arc it's not necessary..

To the point.. The OEM type delco/belden (etc..) wires will do just fine and in a stock application.. just about any plug out there will perform the same.. Just don't buy into the fancy split/diamond high dollar electrode plugs.. Platniums are fine for longevity but provide no performance benefit. The only plug I have ever found to have any kind of real performance benefit (in a performance application) is the Beru silverstones which are difficult to find in the US.. Anyway.. good luck!

I actually bought the Bosch plugs you name from rockauto last night, along with prestolite wires that were on clearance. They only had one copper champion plug left, so I ordered the Bosch. I like rockauto but shipping is expensive since you have to pay separate shipping for parts coming from different warehouses.

 

I'm getting around to installing my plugs and wires and noticed the prestolite proconnect plug wire set did not contain a wire for connecting the coil to distributor. The wires were on clearance at rock auto and I bought them over a month ago. I noticed MSD has a pre made 15" long female-x-female 8.5mm wire. My plug wires are 7mm. Can I use these together? Thanks
