firing problem on a dauntless !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    i took the distrubutor out and timed it again on number one and the crank was at 0 so it looked right

    Are you sure you're setting the dist. with TDC on the compression stroke? I've done that one wrong.

    ok everyone i def geting spark from the points but not from anywhere else. i stuck the volt meter on the coil wire it went from 12v to 8 to 9 to 15 back to 12 so i guess the wire is good and the rotor is new in the distributor so now im out of idea ??????????help??????????

    Replace the coil? Do you have a spare coil? You can take one from another car and try it, for diagnosis purposes. Or, a spare coil is a good trail spare to have.

    the coil is new but i got the old one tho i put the pos lead of the volt meter in the number one and it reads it get power but i dont have some one to turn the key and me put a spark plug in the wire to see if it fires any ldeas

    You can test the coil by yourself.

    Put a plug in a plug wire, plug it in to the top of the coil, and lay it on the engine (for ground). Turn the engine so that the points are closed. Turn the key on and open and close the points manually with something insulated (shock hazard here). Every time you open the points, you should see a blue-white spark at the plug.

    Where did you buy your parts? I tried to tune up my nephew's 74 Maverick with parts he bought from Advance. Couldn't hardly get it to run at all. I always use Echlin ignition parts from NAPA.

    the points are a peice or crap if i put the screwdriver tip of the point and make it ark then the coil fires so im off to the parts store thanks

    well ill have to wait till tomarrow to see if that fixes it part had to be ordered

    It will. You have just learned a valuable lesson. You cannot test the points with a screwdriver to the ARM of the points to ground. The small point contacts have to make the ground connection.

    the little tips where the reason that it wouldn fire they wouldn conduct the srewdriver make it conduct and causing the coil to spark i just went to the parts store to get a new set

    it runs yay i put the new points in and it stoped spuddering so i got the timing right yay . thanks to everyone that helped i wouldn be able to do it with out yall thanks again
