As alot of you saw a few months ago I bought a restored 1974 Cj5. She had her querks but all in all was good. Then 4 days after I got her a 17 year old kid totaled my baby. I sold her to the insurance company with the thought it would be cheaper to buy a new Cj5 than to fix this one. Well after a very long and buisy summer I finally found a replacement vehicle, and not a moment too soon!

This is a 1973 Cj5 with a 258 AMC built inline 6, just bought her today for only $3,000!!!!!

Mechanically she is in far better shape than my other one was and the body is in better shape as well. To fix my old jeep it would have cost around $4,000 so I guess it was a good idea to sell my old one.

Well, another jeep addict is born!;)
Nice jeep! Clean, un-cut up, (is that a word)?
Had a '61 CJ5 that I HAD just finished after a year off the frame restoration wiped out as it was parked on the road in front of my garage, so I know that sick feeling of a loss before you got to know it!:(
I got the vaseoline on it not a happy ending like yours!
Isn't it strange that once you have an old jeep, you GOTTA have one????
I had really thought after that jeep got creamed I buy a brand new one, right off the show room 0 mileage, and just "enjoy" the new jeep smell, (old jeep have a "jeep" smell. I dunno if it's the old grease, the batten the seats are made of or what. But that smell is GREAT)!!
Any bananna, I went to the jeep dealer, sat in one, drove one, looked at the price-YIKES, and a few days later went out and bought a '74 CJ5!
I thought after 18 jeeps and 40 years, I had gotten over the drooling, but nope!
Now where did you put all those jeep parts catalogs and empty charge cards?
    Enjoy it!

Its funny how I found this one. I was on craigslist at about 9:00pm Saturday night and I happen to see that there was a jeep for sale 40 min from where I live. Looked at a few pics and knew I had to jump on this. I called the guy who was selling it at 9:30pm and explained I wanted to come by sunday (yesterday) to look at it.

I get to his house and no sooner did I pull up than someone else pulls up on a motercycle and starts asking him questions about it. Then the owner gets a call and its another guy wanting to buy the jeep as well. He goes on to tell me he has two more people comming to look at it today.

I spent a good two hours looking her over, driving her and weighing my options. The price was right and I told him it was a done deal. No sooner did we do that than someone pulls up to look at the jeep (possibly one of his two other lookers) the guy had a check book in his back pocket and was quite annoyed the jeep was sold!

Nice looking Jeep, congrats on the great deal.

Do you know what the insurance company did with the old one? Looked to me that you had lots of useable parts on it.

The insurance company sent the old one to a junk yard, I however managed to grab several parts off of her before the insurance company came to get her.

You may want to buy it back and part it out. We always need parts.

That's a great idea. If I remember correctly, even with the accident damage that Jeep looked great.
