I just wanted to get some quick advice my leaf springs are shot and I want to replace them with a small lift I'm thinking 2.5". I've searched around and it looks like www.roughcountry.com makes a pretty good value kit. It inlcudes Front and rear leaf springs, u-bolts, polyurethane bushings, and 4 RC Hydro 8000 series shocks for about $410.00 I figured I should also replace the shackles at the same time which cost $35.00 per pair. Does this sound like a good deal and also they offer different sizes for the shackles 1/2", 1 1/4", and 2 1/4" lift options. I'm wondering if I am going to create a bunch of extra work for myself if I add a 2.5" lift and a 1.25" shackle lift?

How big of tires you gonna run? Personally I would shy away from any shackles more than say 1/2" of lift or so. 2 1/2" lift kit will afford 33" tires which is plenty big enough for stock axles. Also note, the chances of the U-bolts in the kit being the right ones are slim to none, especially for the front.

I have BDS 2.5 springs and they work pretty well. In addition they have a no questions asked lifetime warranty.

I put a ProComp 2.5" lift, and it came with the U-bolts (the correct ones, even the odd one on the front passenger side), rear shims, shocks (ES3000), bushings, springs, everything needed for around $450...bought them during a 20% off sale. That was for a 67CJ5.

just did that lift on the 70 cj. went great and there was no problems with the u bolts in the kit, put a 1/2 shackle lift also and are running 32 mtrs looks good and the ride is not that rough. good luck

The 2.5" will feel like a lot more then that with your stock sagging springs. may end up like 3-4" higher then what you have. If you want the sorta stock lift and run 31 or 32" tires go with superlift 1" springs, I had good luck with them.

Another quick note on shackles....can't have them with to much lift or you extend your shocks to their limit...that happened when I put mine back on...had to go with smaller ones.

I got a lot more than 2.5" with my Skyjacker soft ride lift because the old springs were so sagged out. The soft ride lift was a great improvement in the ride.

I also really liked the Skyjacker Softride 2.5" lift. Combined with Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks, it's a great on/off road combo. 15 years later, the combo is still working on the '71.
