I finally pulled out the tcase that I've had soaking in the "purple stuff" for ohh....4-5 weeks now...

I don't expect to be able to get to disassembly for a bit yet, what can I do to prevent it from rusting away on the workbench? Some kinda spray-oil?

wd-40 should help it out a little bit... from what i remember about the whole water displacement / airplane story someone posted a while back.

yep. we used to use a combo of wd40+STP at the shop. but strait wd40 should do the trick.

Mike- If the tcase is going to sit for more than a couple of weeks, I'd soak it with the WD40 weekly. I've read that wd40 and the like can actually clean the metal and give rust a chance if not applied liberally. I realize it will be on the work bench and not in the driveway, but it can't hurt ;)

  5. Mike: Dennis is correct. WD40 is an excellent solvent and displaces water fine. But is is not a long term preservative. Keep re-applying it or get any good spray oil and shoot it after the WD40 has dispersed.

Thanks guys...soaking in WD40 now. I flipped it and pulled the pan..was more worried about the gears than anything.

Now just add that odor to the purple stuff and Kilz already in the garage........

I think the wd40 will be OK...

I plan to paint the case so don't want to get too carried away just yet.
