No spark L head

    Sounds like you found the issue if you have spark now.

    Just be sure and replace the rotor. R)

    WAIT!!! don't test light the plug wire as it will go ka-blewie! (IIRC --coils fire upwards of 50k volts)

    I think you will be fine with the (-) repair

    BTW --Do some further looking into a Ballast as it will add tremendous life to you points. Full 12-14 volts is hard on the contacts. IIRC, a running engine with 8-9 volts is sufficient.

    Will a bad coil still produce weak spark ( it didnt hurt that much when I grabbed the wire. Very small shock!!

    It's the amps that kill ya ;)

    A shock from the interior of your car will also produce upwards of 50k volts but it only has mili-amps

    I think your coil is fine. My L-head also has a faint spark but has an exceptionally tight plug gap. I don't have my manual here so I don't remember the spec. Sparky will know it off the top of his head. .020?

    .020 on the points is correct! I assume you meant points? .030 on the plugs.

    Well Fellas its a done deal!!!!!!!!!!!! put a new coil in and BINGO!!!!
    The old coil had a spot on the backside bottom that was worn through. She purrs like a kitten now. BRing on the snow its ready to work. Thanks to all who have helped along the way.Dave

    Worn through coil?? Only in a Jeep! :rofl:

    My coil left me at the dunes last year :rofl: Coil oil oozed out everywhere!!

    Glad to see it's back on the road!!!
