Help with finding a water temp switch...

I want to wire my aux electrical rad cooling fan to a temp switch, so it comes on at a certain temp. I would use the temp switch to activate the relay.

I see kits on the internet that do this.

    I don't want to pay $50-$100 for a kit I don't need just to get a switch.

I looked around in the j-yard today and found 2 "switches" but they were variable resistors for temp gauges, not switches.

Does anyone know a factory application like this, so I know what make/model to look for? I would not be to picky about a temp setting, anywhere between 160-195 would work I believe.

    Thanks

Autozone has an aftermarket kit for around $20 that has a sensor, relay wiring, switch. Ask for the electric fan relay kit.

No autozones here in Hawaii, but we got Checkers, I'll check that out. Thanks.

The factory temp switches turn on the fans at 210 degrees and then shut off at 195. If you had a switch from 160-195 it would run all the time. I got my switch from an 82' Chevy Cavalier w/4 cylinder. It's a one wire switch. I like having the switch screwed into the manifold. The switches with the wire thing in the radiator hose doesn't turn my crank. I also have the pig tail that plugs on to the switch. I got that threw GM. I haven't road tested it yet. It does work good while ideling around. Being my Jeep isn't road worthy I haven't seen how it will work for extreem off roading.

Thanks Scott, the external temp probe isn't my cup of tea either. I'll keep my eye open for an "early" cavalier. I guess a one wire switch would go to ground, so I'd use the ground circuit to activate the relay. I recently replaced my 195 degree thermo with a 180 so a 195/210 switch would have the fan running all the time anyway, depending on how accurate they both were. Thanks, this is just the info I was looking for.
