    I am getting the dash ready, I have run into a stump, I need to see a pic of a 74 dash, see the dash I got to replace my worn out rusty 72 was a 74, it has some kinda spot for something directly over the top of the steering wheel, I have searched and cannot find what it could be, the only other pic of a 74 I found the hole was blank. you guys know what this could be?

    here is a pic of what I have;

    Just curious if anyone knows how many different dash layouts were used on CJ-5's? I have a 74 that is different from the one pictured above. The cutout for my steering column doesn't open up at the bottom, but it's not wide like the later 5's and 7's.

    hmm, I think this one at one time did have something in it, from the backside you can see a slight mark where something was at one time. I am guessing it is a spot for an optional thing. anybody else?

    as far as the different dash layouts, I know they have several different ones I have seen for guage placement, with the exception of the speedo, I have seen the other guages in all other places. on my original the amp guage was left of the steering wheel and the oil guage was just to the right of the steering wheel. the speedo has always been in the same place as far as I know. now the steering thing, I only know of 3 different ones, the early style, which only was like a small cutout on the lower dash, then the one like mine which is a big upsidedown "U" that takes an insert that goes aroung the steering column and that bolts to the dash, then the later style which is a cutout in the dash and way larger than this one. if you have a different one that these, send up a pic, it may be an aftermarket dash of somekind.

    The owner's manual doesn't show anything there. Maybe for an option like snow plow or air springs?

    I zipped out and took a pic for ya. I tried to attach it, I hope it works. The switch is for a set of factory fog light. I dont have these anymore, but I have seen others with this switch and the wires and installation dont look recent.

    My brother brought it home for me and said, "Here, you need to use this for something on the Jeep." I had a need for a wiper knob, so I filled it in with JB Weld, drilled it and tapped in a set screw.

    My 69 Cj has the factory manual washer pump in that spot. It’s like a snowmobile primer.
