    Hey guys,

A family friend just called and asked me if I wanted there late 60's something Jeep cj5/Vega that they have had for years. The price is right "free" if I want it. it has a v6, 3 speed, 18 tc. I would presume 27 and 44 axles with a vega body on top of the 5 frame. Now it has been setting for I know of 7+ years if not more. Do you think it would be worth getting. I haven't seen it in 4 years and it was pretty rough then. He said it ran great when it was parked. (the body was falling apart) it is about 150 miles from where I am now. The wife was ok with it if i got it and kept what i wanted and scrapped what was left.

With it setting around that long do you guys think it would be worth getting.

    Thanks,

  2. Free Jeeps are always worth it. You can get another tub to make it back into a Jeep, or the parts are good for trading for stuff you need.

I was thinking about the v6 could go in my 62. Do you guys think it would have to be totally rebuilt from setting around so long? Guess I really need to get down there and just check it out.

Sounds like fate to me. You have a Jeep that could use the V6, someone is trying to give you one for free, what was the question again?

Nothing against the 4 popper but this sounds like opportunity knocking.

I don't think that just because it's been sitting for ~7 years does not mean that it has to be "totally rebuilt" but others would have more experience to comment.

that v6 and the t case are worth it alone, I think the tranny is a t86 though, would need an upgrade, however, parts are parts and free parts make a great trade item

  13. Sitting around won't hurt it. I traded a case of beer for a 231 that has been sitting for a number of years and rain got into it. Turning it over by hand on a stand it would only get to a point and stop. It must have had a rust ring on one cylinder that had a valve open. I forced it through with a breaker bar and ran it for years until I spun a rod bearing. Never smoked compression was a little low on that cylinder from pitting.

  14. I dont care what these guys think. I personally think you should not get it and put it out of your mind completely.

what was the address it was located at again??:D

this is where I get lost. its 150 miles away. If you are going down there I would say get it home. If it was me 150 miles is a long way. But since you are headed there bring it home. 150 is a long way to come home empty handed.

I had one many years ago, wasn't it an aluminum block with a teflon coating instead of a steel sleve?
