I ordered my pressure palte today, i said it was a 1968 cj5 with a v6. They couldnt tell me if it is the 3 finger type or the multiple type. I think it did say diaphram, but i forget which one that was. If i end up with the 3 finger will it work with my throwout bearing or do i need a special one??

The three finger is the Borg & Beck style. The multiple is the Diaphragm type. I use the diaphragm in my 69, but I'm not sure it makes much difference.

I pulled the 3 finger type out and replaced it with the diaphram type, but everything came in the kit. I thought that they all worked the same and had the same placement of the TO bearing :?

Yeah I think the dia... have a smoother operation to them than the B&B style.

hey... from what i remember timmy telling me back when i was throuwing everything together the throwout bearings will not take kindly to the opposite pressure plate. so, if you have a three finger you need the three finger throwout, and vice versa. i could be wrong though, but that's what i remember people telling me. that and something about sparks flying all over the place (might be a different subject).

now then, if that's the case... which kinda of plate is your hydrolic TO bearing supposed to work with??

The bearing is supposed to work with a diaphram clutch. the bearing is the same as a normal V6 diaphram bearing but a tad onger, but it is still a GM bearing. :)

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

I believe the diaphram style used the "rounded" face t/o brg
whereas the finger type used the "square" faced t/o brg
I like the diaphram type; easier to operate IMO

  11. Dan: Not much help, but mine has the Centerforce dia. type in it. PO put it in in 2/'02. Works fine. Never had it out and hope I don't have to too soon.

I had the diaphram style up until about three years ago. Dove into a "puddle", lost forward MO' mentum & threw it into reverse. Almost got out, but not quite, so I went forward/reverse again. All the rotton woody debris in that puddle got into the fulcrum part of the diaphram holding the diaphram off of the disc. Basiacally I was stuck with no clutch. Tried washing it out, no go. Towed it home, power washed it, no go. Pulled the dam-n thing apart, & used a coat hanger & a lever with it clapmed to the work bench to remove the crap one "pedal" at a time. It happened to be fairly new so there was no need to replace it. It worked fine until it happened again the following year. Now I use the supposedly inferior 3 finger type with no problems yet. The more open design lets all that crap pass on thru instead of trapping it.
