Wouldn't have been a whole lot easier to move the spring perchs in than locate cut and weld all that scrap?

Bubba never seizes to amaze me...

It's got Scout D-44 in front, so out boarding the perches was mandatory for them.

Don't ask me why they figured 35 pounds of 1/4" scrap would be a good idea, I don't know!

Anyway, I'm trying to decide if I want to rebuild,
    or Scrap this little Jeep...

    And If I keep it, I'll need a reasonable body/tub & fenders...
After some reasonable axles and a butt load of sand blasting and re-coating frame!

This would be good if you could. The reason the you have to outboard springs the gear housing is offset so far that you would be grinding into it for the spring to fit. This is the same problem with waggy axles too.

After looking at the pictures, I'd believe, scout 44s and a D300. The '80, D300 also has the short output shaft, quite the find.
and that is one sexy job of outboarding, not sure I've ever seen one executed quite that way.

If the output housing is iron, then I would say it's a Binder Dana 20. Just because the shifter setup is different, doesn't make it a 300. Plus, if you roll the dice, a texas 20 is much much more likely than a Texas 300.

Plus it looks like a Dana 20 to me ... the Dana diamond is further down the case on a 300, and the top is flatter.

    x2 It'd venture that its a scout d20.

If you rebuild this jeep, please scrap the front spring hangers and start over.

I'm trying to sell the frame/axles/wheels/ windshield/grill/ and maybe the hood...
If it sits around here long enough for me to get through show car season (I do show cars for a living) I might make this a winter project.

I find myself out there scraping rust, using rust nutralizer, poking at things...
I have a set of CJ jeep axles that would fit fine and give me open knuckles and D-44 rear with reasonable width,
And I've figured out a drive train for it,
I just can't seem to get my mind around ANOTHER jeep project this soon!

    What does "Texas 20 & 300" mean?

Never mind, I'll do a search.

"Texas" is the bolt pattern. Called that because it looks like a map of the state.

A texas pattern 20 is very common. A texas pattern 300 is rare, only used for 1 year in Scouts.
