Transmission mount... What is this?

OK.... still working on the rebuild. New engine mounts (M.O.R.E bombproof) and new OEM tranny mount to put on but something doesn't look right here. Now I know people move engines and trans/ transfer case and crossmembers for different reasons but I cannot figure out what trans mount this is?

And here is a pic of the broken motor mount.

Looks like the one on my t-14 w/ 232.
In the process of replacing mine as we speak. I pulled the crossmember to replace all the ujoints and figured I might as well replace the trans mount while I was there.
The replacement I have is chinese crap, the bolt holes are tapped to some oddball size that doesn't fit any known thread pattern or size and they are tapped crooked. I'm just going to retap them.

Also, (again different engine trans combo) but mine doesn't have the bushings/spacers between the trans support crossmember and the frame.

The bushings between the frame and the cross-member were added by a PO, sometime.

I can get you a PN for the mount later - no book at work. If you search "Jeep" plus the PN, you are likely to find some sources. Note that, if the part is imported by Omix-Ada, then every seller will have the same part. Crown also makes some Jeep parts. Both have a web site.

If you want something of higher quality, I'd check with Herm or Novak, or look at the hot-rod parts suppliers for something similar. There may also be a factory Chevy or Ford part that is close enough to work - the quality of a factory replacement part should be ok.

Something i noticed in your pics are the skid plate mounting bolts. I would put the heads of the bolts on the bottom and the nuts and washers on top so they will not snag anything on the trail.

I just finished building a new tranny mount crossmember on my 75.. I gained 2" of clearance by using a 3/8X6" Flate plate and built my own crossmember etc.. I noticed that mine has a few more parts on the ends.. On mine there is another piece on each side that bolts to the top frame rail and then hangs down and bolts to the 4 holes on each side that are vacant in your pix..

Zila please post a picture so I can see what you mean. My guess is the extra piece is for torque support to keep the tranny from twisting if you break a mount. BTW I would like to see a pic of your custom tranny crossmember.

Timgr a part number would be great if you have the chance. By the pics and drawings I have seen from others the stock mount (that I purchased ) does not mount on the crossmember in the same place mine does, it mounts more to the rear on the lower step. But that means the crossmember is to far forward. Does that seem right? Anyone have any pics of a correct tranny mount and crossmember setup for V8, T18, D20?

This looks like the picture in the parts book, pretty much. It's listed under "transfer case" even though it's clearly under the transmission.

The big insulator between the crossmember and the transmission is 1370910. Used for a lot of applications. The "torque reaction insulator" (disks on the stud) are 945266. Again, used on lots of applications.

The parts for a CJ with a T-18 are different, hanging off the side of the crossmember.

Big G thanx for posting that picture. I have heard about the torque arm but mine is missing.. I will have to look for one now to replace the MIA piece and see if I can adapt it to my tranny. FWIW I swapped in a 4-speed Jeep tranny and the mount area is different than the one in the pic

CJ5Doc I'll try to get some pix tomorrow, as I am about ready to go to bed right now..

Here's a few pix of my mount that I fab'd.. I am going to add a couple more 1/4 X 1" strap to gusset it a bit more before I paint it.. The bottom pic shows the upper frame bracket I was telling you about.

This "torque reaction insulator" (disks on the stud) pn 945266...Is this part available online, or in any parts catalogs? I've been searching for the correct one of these forever, and haven't had any luck. Right now, I'm using the similar part from a later model CJ, but it is obviously incorrect.
