    Hi,

I hava a leaking oil pump. It starts leaking this week. I read the articla on this forum about rebuilding an oil pump. Oil preasure is OK and there is no gasket between it. When putting a gasket I think the clearance will be higher , resulting in lower preasure. Is there a sealant what will cure the leaking? Ore does it not need anything between the metalparts ( housing and cover):?

    Thanks

The FSM for 225 shows a gasket on the oil pump. I have one on mine (no leaks) and the thickness of the gasket is more than likely factored into design so as to maintain proper oil pressure.

OK, but I read all kinds of procedures with clearance specs etc. So I thought a gasket is causing more clearance and was wondering if original it has a gasket or not. I ordered a repairkit from Rockauto.com . So I will see what I get and try to fix it. I hope it will work with a gasket because I do not have confidence in getting it leakfree without one. Thanks for the information. Did you also replaced the gears?

I don't know that much about the V6, but on other V8 engines with a similar design of oil pump, the gears actually stick out of the housing by a few thousandths of an inch. Without a gasket, the gears will be grinding into the oil pump cover. The gasket thickness is part of the design.

No gasket cement! Just the gasket!

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

I suppose it's possible the thicker trans oil couild have caused this leak
might check your oil filter for bulging as well.
unless of course, it was leaking prior to the other incident

The leaking was already going on. Therefore I added ( wrong ) oil. I will take it appart and do some measurements. I think the former owner already had oilpump problems because there is no gasket. I ordered a repairkit. and see if I can flaten the cover. and do some preasur test.

Finaly thought all the problems were cured. Well I could have known it after 10 years JEEP

If it's a problem with the cover the Melling girdle works well for fixing that problem easily and cheaply.

I opened the pump. Cover was in very god shape. New gasket, gears ,and pressure is OK. I did the trick filling the system with a drilling machine. Works great. Very nice this forum with so many innovative ideas

    Thanks for the tips

ps. filled it with 15-40 enige oil.
