Brake Question

    I Just bought a 57 CJ-5 and the only thing i can find wrong is that the Brakes don't work... you push the peddle and no stop...Any thing would help...

    Tommy, you first need to get a manual. About $35. Try www.thejeep.net or www.books4cars.com

    To get the original brakes to work, start by checking that there's fluid in the master cylinder. Then look for leaks around the master cylinder and wheel cylinders. Check the flexible hoses between the front wheels and the axle, and the hose between the rear axle and the frame. Pull the drums off and look under the wheel cylinder cups for fluid, and that everything is in good condition. Adjust the brakes. If everything is dry outside, the brake hardware looks good and is adjusted, and there's fluid in the MC, the MC is probably shot.

    The brakes weren't very good to begin with on these Jeeps, so conversions are common.
