Power brake addition to '72 commando

I am getting ready to work on my commando. I have a power brake unit I got on e-bay. Still have to check to make sure it holda a vacuum. What I didn't get with it was the two spacer blocks to mount it. This is going on a '72 bull nose that never had power brakes before.

The spacers look pretty simple. Does anybody know the dimensions on the blocks. Hole sizes and thickness?

    Thanks,

    Dave

I think you'll have to find somebody with original power brakes, and then measure. The Commando parts are probably the same as the CJ parts from '72-75, so that's an option. If I had a parts book, I could check.

This is a booster for a '72-73 Commando, or just some booster?

Another possibility is to use the whole setup from a later CJ or Wrangler.

The booster was from a '72 commando.

Thanks for the reply. I have a parts book I can look up to see if the CJ is the same.

I have a set out in the shop I can take some measurements off. Might be Tuesday afternoon before I can get to it.

I PM'd you regarding those spacers.

    xxwolfyxx I broked it

I need the same thing on my 73.
I figured I could just make them to what ever size worked best for clearance.
Just need to fab a push rod of the correct length

Wagoneer boosters/master cylinders from the same year model ('72-'73) will also work in Commandos as I used a rebuilt one in my '73 Commando with a 304/auto. The Wagoneer boosters are larger diameter so there is a less clearance for the engine dipstick, but there is no problem with hood clearance on a Commando. I doubt these will work if you have the 258 I-6 motor or if Powerbrakes were even offered on those. The spacer blocks in the Wagoneers may also be the same, but I a, not sure. I have an original '73 Commando booster laying around if someone wants it for a rebuild core. It is free if you pay shipping--I hate to throw it away as I bet they are getting rare these days. bg

As best as I can tell power brake were not offered in '72 and '73 with the I-6 engines. The problem is interference with the air cleaner I think. I am putting mine in a Commando with an I-6 so I'll let you know.

I've heard that before, and I'm skeptical. My '75 CJ6 with a 258 had factory power brakes. I don't think the distance of the booster from the engine is different on the Commando... CJ fenders and hood fit on a Commando, so the cowl has to be basically the same.

Pretty sure the diameter of the CJ booster is smaller than the Wagoneer/J-truck booster. I can measure the J-truck booster if needed.

Countryboy is correct, PB were never offered as an option with the straight six for that very reason.
