We are installing an offenhauser 360 4 barrel intake on a 67' 225 oddfire block. i bought the intake/carb off ebay a week ago and it was labeled in sharpie as a 231 oddfire intake. i did a little research and saw a picture or two of this intake mounted on a 225 and figured it was all systems go.

we spent the day rebuilding the carb and decided to try and get the intake manifold on and now we are having issues with fitment.

it seems like it doesn't settle right, there is space between the cyl. heads even when the intake sits flush on bottom. even when all the bolts are tight it seems like the whole intake is binding and i'm afraid to tighten it or it might crack the aluminum.

there is a decent amount of space between the intake and cyl head (1/8") and its like this intake wasn't meant to fit. so now i'm just confused.

i read up on the tech in the search feature and i can't figure it out, please let me know if any of you all have dealt with something like this before.

    thanks
    Paul

Has the engine been rebuilt, the block or heads milled?

I had a similar problem with a intake manifold i bought off ebay years ago.. :( I dont know for sure.. but I think it may have been a intake for a buick 198 v6

evanjm Yeah, it's got an F-head.

it's a dual port. and it does look a bit different than the one in your pictures, clint..
the motor has been rebuilt and the heads milled, but i only took off 5 thousandths; nothing that hsould affect it.

Milling the heads would not change the distance between the head and the intake. If anything it would require enlarging the manifold bolt holes to install (align) mounting bolts. Something is not quite rite on that offie but can't quite put my finger on it. Thinking-Thinking.

KAISER CJ6 CJ6 Yes its too long for the photo!

I had the same problem, ordered an intake for what I thought was a 225 (in my foolish youth) trying to bolt it on I figured out very quickly that I had a Buick 198 instead. Intake was too wide to seat. I ended up with the dual port Offy thru Summit. It sound like you have the reverse, be glad the 198 is a pain to find parts for.

Take a picture of the intake ports..........sounds like a 231 EF manifold 79 and later.........they have higher intake ports and will not fit the early motor!
