Toyota Starter on F134...fact!

After reading previous posts about using a Toyota Landcruiser starter on the F134 I was skeptical. So I called O'Reilly's to see if they had one. They did indeed, Ultima Part #16224. I had the old starter with me for comparison. The bolt holes looked correct, and the gear had the 9 teeth. Brought it back for $59.00 plus I paid the 10.00 core fee and kept my old starter. It was a perfect fit. The top bolt was a bear getting in due to the construction of the new starter but otherwise OK. Boy what a thrill to hear that F134 turn over so fast. I guess my old starter has been bad for the past 10 years and I never knew it was supposed to crank this fast. I actually thought I had a bad battery. Anyway, hope this helps someone else just as it did me. This is a fantastic forum. Thanks. I also rebuilt the brake system to the original 9" spec.'s. Both rear cylinders were frozen and not working, front left was leaking. New Master cylinder, new wheel cylinders, and new shoes sure make a big difference. It's back to Lake Texoma for this old dog and some more lake fun.

I don't know why you couldn't use the foot starter. Just have to shoot 12V to the solenoid. As far as what models this will fit, I assume any of those with F134. It sure works nice and smooth. Bendix is operated by the unit on top of the starter. I'm very pleased and give credit to those pioneers that have gone before me.

 

if i recall corectly the bell housing is different also dan, the L head has a place that the end of the starter goes into with a bushing in the bell

had seriously considerded doing the same, but the starter ran like $150 around here and no body had one, and i was not %100 sure it would work

 

does anyone know what engine landcruiser. Fhead starters are like rocking horse droppings in Australia.

 

From one of the previous threads, I believe 4.2L

 

Years ago I had a '74 Toyota Hi-Lux P.U. with an 18R engine. The starter and alternator were listed as the same for the Landcruiser. Could possibly be another source. My truck had an automatic though.

Hmmm.... he could be right I know I've never seen rocking horse droppings before. But I'm sure going to buy a Toyo starter to help spin over my Fhead.

Wow. Great find. Of course, I'll have to find something to do with all that time I save waiting for the original starter to finish cranking.

 

On the Toyota subject -- Any one know if the 65 to 72 Landcruiser used a D18 transfer case?

There is a running Toy six complete with tranny and tc on craigslist here, and from the picture that shows the rear of the tranny and tc, both out put shafts would be on the passenger side.
Course I'm blind in one eye, and can't see outa the other, so I just might be hallucinating the whole thing.
