Hey all, I am having a nightmare with 2 helicoils on my exhaust/intake manifold. The hole have been helicoiled before and the tap does not seem to be cutting a deep enough thread. Needless to say the helicoil is pulling out. I can not get enough tourqe to get the gasket to seal. I am wondering if I can go to a larger helicoil but I am concerned about the water jacket, especially the rear one. I gotta think this has happened before, but I am not finding any threads that address this issue.I am in hopes someone may be able to give me som other ideas. Thanks Dave

if the helicoil was set past the back thickness of the casting, would this cause failure?

Are you breaking the tang out after the heli-coil is inserted?

yes I am but I probably should not insert to the point that it hangs out the back side right?

the casting is not on the greatest of shape on the milled surface. That may also be causing the pulling out issue.I guess it is one more reason for a ridgid type insert.I am not sure if there is enough threads to hold due to the hole on the face.
