How many cj6's are out there?

Discussion in 'Early CJ5 and CJ6 Tech' started by windyhill, Jun 16, 2007.

  1. aallison

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

I'm creating a CJ6 so you can count it if you want. It is currently titled as a '74 "Jeep CJ" and the donor cj is my avitar.

Tub is a fiberglass that I got because the PO is replacing it with a Willys Overland steel tub (over 4 grand). Frame is a CJ8 because I could not find a 6 frame. The rest of the story:

    304/T18/D20
SOA with 4" Skyjacker softride springs,
D44 front, Detriot Locker, high steer setup, disc's
    D60 rear, Lincoln locker, disc's
    4.56's
Both axles full width and came from a 74 J-20 one ton
    Full cage
    vented windshield
hose out with water to clean interrior
    No radio, no speakers
    unnecessarlly large 39's
Totally impractical as a DD on my 10 mile drive to work and back home.

Like I said, to the outside world, it's a CJ6. But it's not really. But it will be just the jeep I've always wanted. I'll try to attach a pict of what it used to look like. (IT WORKED!! PICTS!!) The trailer has a tent that pops up on top. Real cool.

I have a cj6 frame that has a VW Bug body on it that was built as a mud dragster in the early 80s. May find a decent tub one of these years though it may be beyond help the frame is all but trashed from flexing so often. :(

The one in the pic is not mine though I wish it were.
'74 built as an export it has a 232 with 4.0 t case 4.88 gears D30 front with ARB, D44 rear with a Detroit full cage 35" MTRs etc etc etc. He has a late model 4.0 out of an XJ ready to drop in this winter.

I bought a 1960 in August. It appears to be nearly all original. It has an alternator and electric top mounted wipers. It also has several 2" holes drilled in the fenders and grill, I'm not real sure what for. Serial number is 57748 18960. Has F-134 and T90 & Dana 18. It had a hard top at one time, but it did not have it when I bought it. It does run...barely. All the electrical had been removed and the body mounts removed.

I'm not real sure what or when I'll do something with it. It takes lots of time and $$$$$$$$$.

CJ6 here as well. I'm new to mechanic work so I figured a jeep is a good vehicle to learn on. I will be trying to restore my 1968 CJ6

My Cj6 is a 1959 in good repair. F Head engine and drive line completely rebuilt and still stock. New paint and tires and a blast to drive. I saw another CJ6 for sale on craigslsit here in San Diego, we probably have the only 2 in town.

I own a 1974 CJ6. The body tub was rusted and removed by the PO. It has an AMC 360. Everything else is there. I'm thinking setting it up as an Austrailian Overlander look alike. The Overlander was sort of a pickup truck on a CJ6 frame. I'm just waiting on 2 rare items: Time and Money.

1967...or so I was told by the PO, I've never really confirmed the exact year of manufacture.

Bought it for $500 without the drivetrain but originally had a v6 and the rear was the flanged dana 44. (swapped?)

Since I had a clean slate for the motor/tranny/t-case, I sold the offset d44 to a better home.

My set up is pretty typical:
    4.3 TBI
    sm465
    np205
    d44, 14 bolt
    SOA
    Hard Top

Still building it after 9 long years of off and on.

    Two here...
    1) 1963 Left Hand Drive
    2) 1963 Right Hand Drive

The Right Hand Drive has no interior parts and no engine. The Left Hand Drive has no engine and most of the interior parts will be removed to complete the Right Hand Drive. So, officially, I have 2. In the end, I'll probably have 1 complete and 1 partial unless I get an early CJ5 donor to complete the 2nd CJ-6.

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

I'm kinda building a CJ6 if that counts.

    CJ6 glass tub
CJ8 frame (could not find a 6 frame and the wheel base's match close enough)
    401/T18/D20
D44/D60's with 4.56 gears, Detroit front, welded rear, 4 wheel disc's
    Way cool vented windsheild
Biggest tires I can fit with a SOA and 4" springs and a little trimming.

    Planning on
    hydrobost
    full cage
    really comfy seats.

Do we have a registry? Mike's site was the closest to a registry that I recall.
