found M416B1 ...maybe

Back down here in SoCal on business. At least I found another trailer and this one is a M416. Sorry no photos, I went an looked at it in the dark. I put a deposit on this one so it wouldn't be sold out from under me too. Anyway, I think I'm going to buy it because it is very straight and there is very little rust. It has a few modifications done to it during rebuild by some P.O. 2" ball coupler mount and a very well done tail gate seem to be the big changes. Searching the net this morning I found info about the B1. This trailer has the frame mounted lifting hoops like a rare B1. Most of the other B1 items are missing, no surge brakes and no gas can mounts and the wheels are standard M416. Owner only knows it as a military trailer so no help there. Going out to see it again this moring in the day light and record the numbers and get a few photos. Check back and help me I.D. this thing. I will include photos and the price.

With the lifting hoops but without the surge brake and can mounts it sounds like a Marine Corp. M416 to me rather than a M416B1.

Are the brackets on the lower front corners for the Jerry Cans to mount on?

Master cylinder could have been removed during the coupler mod.

Surfing around, only info I found that was hopeful to it being a B1 was someone saying he never heard of lifting loops on anything but a B1. O'Well. It's all new to me. Here are the photos so far. Frame tag is un readable to my bad eyes and I am going to try a pencil rub on paper and see what happens. Seems OK for $750 so I'm going for it no matter. i am just looking for a goo trailer.

I'd say you did great considering the shape it appear's to be in! I paid $300 for mine about a year ago and it wasn't near as clean as that one.

Mine look's very similiar to that one, even same color, (not as nice a shape though) minus the lift ring's and tailgate of course. That tailgate appear's to have been done nicely and not hacked up. I want to convert mine to a tailgate to make it more user (and back) friendly!

Mine came with the surge brake's and non swiveling pintle ring but I removed them both and welded in dual 2" reciever hitches for varying hitch height's. The surge brake's were inop and the pintle ring assembly had been bent. Mine also came with what appeared to be a fire extinguisher holder, which I also removed.

I would also agree that your's was more than likely Navy/Marine Corps issue with the lift ring's. Good luck with your new trailer and good luck getting it home!

Good find! I like that tailgate latch idea, are the pins spring loaded?

I especially liek the ball-coupler mounted to the lunette idea. Nice score!
