Who has made their own trans crossmember?

Seeing a post of Dummy's trans crossmember just made me think about this. I'm almost done modifying my original crossmember for a SM420 mated to the original D18.

As luck would have it, I just took shipment of a shiny new JD2 Model 4 hydraulic tubing bender. Right now, I have one die for bending 1-3/4" tubing on a 5.5" radius. This setup is going to help me make a cage for my A1 but I'm planning to make a new trans crossmember as a starter project first.

Does anyone have any pics of theirs? I figured at least Neptco and Jeepenstein have gotta have something...

    Gracias!

Mine is this winter - SM465, D18. Pro-tools 1" square and 1.5" and 2" round dies. Thinkin that the 1" square with some reinforcment in key areas would be worth exploring...

    Any comments.

I was thinking some square tube dies would be nice though I figger I could make a pretty nice tranny mount with some 1-3/4" even though ithe tubing might be a little big. Makes me wonder what Dummy used for his...

    Christian, you out there?

My overall thought was to kinda belly pan it across the bottom and possibly tie into sliders on the sides. Got to figure out the exhaust if I do that as it rides on the outside of the frame where I am used to putting slider brackets.

1-3/4 inch, 0.120-wall DOM with poly bushings. It's overkill, but it's not too big. I used some 3/16-inch plate stitch welded to the tubing and folded over with a dead blow hammer (so it wouldn't mushroom the metal) as a skid plate. Hole-sawed the skid plate for the t-case drain hole.

If I was to rebuild it I'd most likely use 1.5-inch, 0.120-wall.

The one I built for my Ramcharger was 1-3/4-inch, 0.120-wall. The one I built for my CJ-6 was simply the stock X-member that was modified for a GM tranny mount with some 3-16-inch plate.
