:v6: Any suggestions, ideas on what to use on my frame after the rust, crude and dirt have been scraped away?

POR 15 or Eastwood Rust Ecapsulator. I used POR 15 on my Willys truck, I was happy with the results. Other folks haven't been.

    YMMV.

I'm going to have mine sandblasted and powdercoated with semi-gloss black. Should be about $240 total, but he's a local blaster here in Denver that specializes in classic car stuff. I'm planning on taking it in Monday morning.

Other guys use POR-15 as base, but I hear it has to be topcoated with a good paint or it gets funky (ask Howard). Eastwood sells a frame paint, and there's frame paint available at your local automotive paint stores. As with any painting, good preparation is the key, with cleanliness at the top. Get off as much loose paint and rust as possible, and degrease it the best you can. Myself, I'd wipe it down with lacquer thinner and rags before I painted it, to get all residues off.

My 5 was POR-15'd before I got it and it didn't hold (prep??). I POR-15'd my CJ7 and I think it held pretty well for the 2+ years I had it since. Prepped it with the metal clean stuff they sell. Topcoated with rustoleum black
This time I cleaned off the 5's frame and I'm just hammering it. We'll see.

I haven't done my jeep yet but my pick-up has a 2-part acryic enamel from a local auto/marine paint store. I believe it was PPG. The truck has been sitting a block from th ocean and the frame still looks clean. On my Jeep I'm tempted to use hammerite because the prep isn't so involved. Other people here have also suggested Tractor Supply's implement paint. Good luck.

On both my 5 and my '49 Chevy 3/4 ton, I cleaned the metal (sandblasted) then used an epoxy primer and topcoated with gloss black rustoleum. I did the Jeep 10 years ago and it still looks pretty good. There are a few spots where the paint is wearing off (scratches, brake fluid) but the primer is VERY hard and hasn't been touched.

Personally I would suggest against the Hammerite. I had bad luck on my frame.

If I had to do it all over again (And the frame is still bare, so heck I just might) I would blast/powdercoat it. Not that much more $-wise and seems it would hold up much better.
