Did 72-75s use a hood prop rod like the 1976 and up?

I am selling a hood prop rod from a CJ7 on ebay, and the question came up... I bet it could be made to work, but I am thinking 76 was the first year for prop rods. Can anyone confirm?

My 72 has one. It's located on/under the hood near the front edge.

 

i know some pre '72's used a hood prop too. i think when they went to the tall glass, bottom mount wipers on the windshield, they went to the hood prop as there was no longer any room on the windshiled to mount the pads that the hood rested on when in the up position.

 

Certainly 72-on had them; don't know about 70ish-71.

 

Just found it in the '74 parts manual (Group: 12008-1; part #979722; a.ka. "Rod, Hood Prop").

 

My 75 CJ5 has one & looks stock.

 

I had a '82 Scrambler that the prop rod came out of the socket and the hood landed on my buddys fingers.

I lost the rod.
