Can anyone tell me what the weight of a completely stock 68 jeep is. I would love to know exactly, but a roundabout figure would work too.
    Thanks!!

Gross vehicle weight of a CJ-5 = 3,750 lbs. according to the info gleaned from Jim Allen's "Illustrated Buyer's Guide". :)

GVWR is the maximum the vehicle can legally weigh - including passengers, fuel and cargo. That's not the same as the curb weight. I'd guess the curb weight of a stock 60s CJ at about 2500-2800 lb.

According to AMC literature circa 1973, a '73 CJ with a 304 had a curb weight of 2437 lbs.
The '68 should be close to that

Went and found the title and license reciept. Mine is listed 2800# that was when it had a metal hard top. That's for a 58 CJ5. So I'd guess it was around the 2500-2600# mark without it. I had to have mine weighed in order to get a green sheet to get tags(came from out of state)And that's what they put on the sheet.

The curb weight mentioned in the "...Guide" has 2,274 lbs. for a CJ-5 w/ an F-134, and 2,351 lbs. for those w/ a V6.

It's funny that they list it as more because the V6 engine itself weighed up to 90 lbs less than the F head 4.

The weight of my 68 CJ-5 with the V-6 was 2,480 lbs. Subtract 230 lbs for my fat *** in the drivers seat :) .

I couldn't get my tabs until I could provide the licesing agency an actual weight from a certified scale, so I drove it out to the Washington State Patrol commercial vehicle scales on Interstate-5 and got in line with the big boys.

yeah that 304 was a boat anchor. great running engine, but each head weighs the same as the v6 block. plus the 73 is what, 5" longer than the 68 to accomodate the longer amc 6 or v8, so you've added body, and frame weight.
damn, 6'1"/230 is like my ideal height to weight ratio..wish i was back down there again..0=)
(bet my jeep wishes i was back down there too) lol

Actually the AMC V8s are lighter than the Chevy small block, and the 258 is lighter than the V8. It's hard to compare engine weights exactly, since the weight varys so much depending on what you define as a complete engine.

The Intermediate Jeeps are heavier than the Kaiser era Jeeps, but I expect that comes from the longer wheelbase and more accessories mostly.

Ok, According to my 1966 owners manual on page 6 it says the following:
    Gross Vehicle weight...... 3750
    Shipping weight......2163
    Curb weight........2274
For canvas half top add 38 lbs
For canvas full top add 56 lbs
    For hardtop add 340 lbs

The owners manual doesn't distinguish between the 4 cyl and the dauntless.
