i am going to take a look at a pair of early cj's tonight the add says that one was a 48 military.. (i dont think so it would have to be earlier right) and a 48 cj2a.

neither have titles the cj2a is pretty complete (parts wise) he said he had it runnin a while ago.

neither of these sound too rare to me i just wanted to check for. i know the jeep basics... rust etc.. i am just unsure what these are worth.. from the pic (i think this one is the cj2a) the body looks solid..

The one in the picture appears to be an M38. The gas cap is much larger than a 2A/3A, the turn signals are recessed into the grill, and the headlights appear to have the square trim ring around them. If it has a glove box on the drivers side, tool indents on the passenger side, and a battery box in the cowl, it's an M38.

These were made from '50-'52. The fella could have his facts crossed about it being a 1948.

This could all be wrong, as the picture is so fuzzy.

Yeesh, hard to tell from the photos. Gonna be hard to drag that one away with no wheels on it! I'd volunteer to go with you to check 'em out, but I'm booked the next three nights.

    ron,

i am not sure how much i want to investigate these pair.. i think the wife would flip if i came home with 2 more jeeps.. neither have titles either..

i thought the mb's had 9 slot grills..

i will check on the glove box and the tood box in cowl..

MBs do have a 9 slot grill. Why do you ask?

AFAIK the MB/GPW production ended in 1945, and I don't think there was any more military production until the M38.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    I think it's an early 2A, 46 or 47
it has the bullet style parking lights in the grille
those were only used to about mid 47
the fuel opening appears larger as if the tank/grommet is not in place
it looks like daylight thru the fuel filler opening
would help if the ID tags are there on the firewall

I'll go with ya if you need/want moral support. Looks like an adventure. If you can get 'em that cheap, I'd like to witness that. Nothing like a good score! I've got a Silverado that'll pull anything, but no trailer.

I'm not sure the titles are an issue with something that old. Might check w/your local DMV office.

the civilian would have a tailgate and the mb wouldn't. Sound right??

If it's an MB, no tailgate. If it's an M38, it would have one.

The one in the pic looks like an m38 to me. If you look at the lower portion of the grill you can see what look like hinges, of course the pic is not good at all.

Didn't M38s have handles in front of the fuel filler?

Looks like your in Colorado. If you need some wheels, let me know.

Byron! I remember you. How are you doing? How did your kit car project come out? Sorry to hear about losing the deal.

Sorry to hear you missed the deal. It would be nice if the buyer popped up here.

    grandpa jeep,

honestly, i never got the cobra replica rolling, i had too much license / redtape for the county to get it registered. i ended up getting a 80 cj5 that i am about 70% finished with a frame off.

this is it more or less. it is heading in for paint this weekend.. it will be gone for 8-10 weeks.. i dont know what to do with myself!

That's too bad on the Cobra. I didn't realize it was such a pain to register those. I figured you just called it an '89 Mustang and went from there. Did you end up just parting the whole thing out then? Is there anything left?

On the CJ, that looks good. Can't wait to see it when it's done. If you're looking for something to do, I could bring up my flat fender for some bodywork.:)
