Here's a couple pics to show why the steering wasn't hooking up in SSDutch. It's not that the tie rod was the wrong length, it's because the drag link wouldn't reach the steering box.

Here's why - the double hole TRE has the bend 180 different (painted is Dutch, unpainted is SSDutch):

And here's the effect that has on the drag link. Both drag links are at their maximum angle to the tie rod in this pic:

It wasn't an issue when connecting up to the stock ross box, but Dutch's setup just wouldn't reach the Saggy box in SSDutch.

So the question is...how do you get the double TRE's with the opposite bend? Is it from a different application (Commando?). When I bought the new double-hole TRE I just ordered a standard CJ version.

We talked about this the other day... I tried to find the post, but haven't found it right off. I'll keep looking.

Seems like Steve (w3srl) was able to use the stock CJ part (with the bend the "wrong" way). Someone else posted that they were not able to use it, for the exact same reason you're saying.

Wait - I think I just remembered it. Its the thread about using a reverse-pattern box... In the technical forum.

Edit - Nope, that wasn't it.

Anyway, someone said that the TRE that is bent the "correct" direction is from a Commando - just like you mentioned.

jst so i can figure tis out... the top version made it over to the sagi box?? i've been staring at my swap for a little while trying to figure this out. i've got the stock cj end, but my tierods are flipped on the nuckle.

it's mind boggling to me thinking about what needs to go on for everything to go right, but the thread above gets into what you're talking about around the second page.
