    So you have the coil with an internal resistor AND a ballast resistor both?

    I didn't say not to..... The instructions for the Pertronix igniter says DO NOT remove the balast, if there is one already in place with the factory ignition..... I'll mail you the instruction book....

    I was too. The MSD blaster coil says use a balast only if you have points, or a Mallory dist. The pertronix igniter says do NOT remove the balast, if the factory setup has one.....

    Ok, so you use a Ballast Resistor AND an internally resisted coil is what you're saying then? The Jp article states clearly that the Pertronix Flamethrower Coil is internally resisted. That's all I'm asking.

    No, the MSD coil is not internally resisted, that's why it uses a balast....

    OK Here's the deal. The Ignitor instructions say don't remove the ballast if you have one. The Flamethrower instructions say remove the ballast if you have one. We're talking about two different items here. The Flamethrower coil has the 1.5 ohms resitance built in and as such, needs no external resistor. The location of the resistor has nothing to do with the Ignitor operation. The resistor only relates to the coil. The coil I removed said on it " For use with external ballast only" Guess I answered my own original question.
