D20 Vs D300

The rare one year only IH Texas pattern D300 is easily worth $300 by itself.
Your T18 is a great fit to that combination.
We’re talking about an extreme duty combination here.
Standard the D300 comes with a real decent 2.62 gear set.
That would solve the problem of D20 rear output being a weak link.

 

I talked to Nick on the phone for a half hour. Super nice guy. Anyways, he said to grab that transfer case and he remembers machining up the automatic gear years ago to work on the T18. He also said some of the IH supply houses might be willing to trade that gear for the correct gear that I need as well. Also, the 4:1 low kit comes with all 5 gears, so that will also be another avenue for me. He said the Scout D300s have the shortest tail shaft too.

 

Maybe late on the topic...been runing a dana 20 behind a t18 granny transmission. Never had problem with my amc 360 breaking rear output. I had a hard time braking intermediate gear. Solve that problem with an intermediate shaft kit from advance adapter.

last year i try 3.15 conversion kit for the dana 20 to put on a th350 with a 5.3 ls in front of it. I had a castastrophic failure in the first trail, all gear has chew up. Too much power for the dana 20 with a 3.15 kit.

I have swapper a fully built dana 300 with a rear 32 spline short output with novak. For now everything hold up nicely....

 

The short tail shaft is a 1980 Dana 300 thing. CJ's share that

 

I have only now been reading through this thread. First of all, what is this about Timgr not being here?
Next, and of way less importance, if you use Novak stuff, the T18/D300 adapter is 2.2 longer than the T18/d20 adapter.
Dana 300's are very quite in low range because of helical cut gears. They don't flat tow as well as Dana 20. Back in the day, we would put sliders in the Dana 300s with paddles on them to enhance lubrication. I still have a set if anyone needs them?

 

Not with the Texas pattern D300 I'll be picking up today.

Or another option with those 36” tires… maybe you can find a set of 4.27 flanged axles.

 

I’ll be doing the 4:1 gears since I’m missing the rare 6 spline drive gear. Nick said the low range kit comes with a new drive gear.

I just didn’t want to spend the time adapting a Jeep D300 to the T18. Trying to avoid down time. At least the scout D300 will be bolt in.

 

Maybe I'm missing something, but I was under the impression that the 4:1 kits for the Texas D300's were no longer available.
Do you have a link to a manufacture or retailer that stocks the 4:1 texas 5 gear set?
The standard 4:1 D300 set as manufactured by Low Max only works with round flange D300.

 

According to Nick, the jb kit will work. Just have to specify what I have when ordering it.

I wont be anytime soon. The scout D300 turned out to be a D20. Guess I'll have to stop being lazy and adapt the Jeep D300 to the T18.

 

Here’s a Texas D300 that’s a million miles away with a T19.
I wonder would that be a CR T19 or WR ?
Looks like fairly long stickout so I think that means it’s WR.

Put the WR T19 in Ford case then shorten and re-spline the main drive gear and it becomes a “bolt in”.
