Current 16" Tire Options.

I guess it's time to start looking at tire options. I currently have 17yr old 7.50r16 32" trans Trac lt's that are dry rotting, cracked, chipped and bald on 16" truck wheels. I want to keep up with Jpets sipped 7.50r16 NDT. This will sometimes plow snow and rarely drive in rain. Mostly flat towed.

What tires / tyres do we have to pick from that are likely to last 17 years?

 

there's always the 750-16 Traxion tire. Haven't run these before, but waiting on a set to ship to replace some veeery worn out old 700-16 tires.

BTW anyone know what the difference between the "traxion" and the "super traxion" tires are? they look to be the same

I haven't had much chance to get them offroad in lots of conditions but their road manners are surprisingly great for something from the Super Swamper family. They go straight ahead, they don't flat spot, they aren't noisy, and they ride decent.

The offroad stuff I've done is gravel, dry dirt and grasslands, so I can't comment on mud, snow and rocks yet. They are siped, so there is some hope of wet and cold performance.

 

I just bought a set of the STA 7.50-16 and will get them on soon. My other jeep has had the same tire in 7.00-15 for 7 years and maybe 20k miles, still looking good and very little wear.

They are bias ply but I haven't experienced any flat spotting unless they sit for 2+ months at a time. The ride is about the same as the radial ATs that were on it before. Noise is a little worse but not bad.

They come in tube or tubless and 8 or 10 ply. Coker is not the manufacturer and others have them cheaper, just FYI.

 

super traxion are tubeless. I believe traxion require tubes.

 

I have had these in a 31/10.50r15. They were quiet, well mannered and lasted a long time. I should have put a set of these on Farm Jeep Willy instead of the bias TSLs.

There is no STA “Traxion” tire.
All of the STA mud and snow tires are called Super Traxion’s.
All of the 6.50 x 16 size are available in 6 ply tube type only.
The 7.50 is a different tread pattern with much more siping than the 6.50,
The 7.50 is available in 8 ply only yet can be either tube or tubeless design.

 

Ayuh,.... I'd Love to find some 5 on 5.5" to 8 on 6.5" wheel adapters, so I could run my 235/ 85- 16 take-offs from my '97 F250,....

 

If you look at the side of the tire it always says
“SUPER TRAXION”.
I have the 6.50 x 16” tube type and the 7.50 x 16” tubeless versions.
But I don’t have the 7.5O x 16” tube version.
The 7.50 x 16” size are crazy expensive these days.

 

There are 16" 5 on 5.5 wheels available.

 

I believe it was Jeepsterman company that recently announced they are selling new 16x5" 5 on 5.5 wheels again. No DOT rating though.

running them on my Rovers and they are great.. a bit wider than a traditional Michelin 7.50 x 16 but look and wear great so far..

 

LT235/85R16 size opens up a ton of good quality radial tires.

BFG 7.50 x 16 KM3 is another option if you want to keep the old school size designation.

 

Only problem is most tires in this size are load range E. If you find some load range C's they would probably work pretty good.
