Tube Fenders Wanted:

Is there anybody out there making tube fenders? I'm looking for a set for a 69 CJ5. I originally posted this in the "fabricators forum" but didn't get a very good response so I thought I would post it here. Thanks.

 

Recently saw some on poison spider and warrior products. They are not cheap.

 

Neither of those companies make them for early CJ5's...

Not good. I did this earlier today.


I messaged ITLKSEZ and had a quick discussion about bends. Basically if you want a tight bend you will need to “pie cut” the inside of the curve. I’m going to try this after work today. But I also ordered this today

Long Radius 90 Elbow | Butt Weld Fitting | A234 WPB | Import

Will need to weld this onto straight pipe for a perfect 90.

 

It takes some time but I have packed the tube with sand, weld the ends shut, find a well casing and weld on a tube holder then heat and bend it around. Like I said it takes some time but it works and the tube doesn't collapse.

 

There are no bolt on options for early CJs just the late models. There are a few companies that make pre bend tubing kits to fab your own.

 

Don’t worry I’m a good grinder.

 

If anyone near me wants to give something like this a go - we have a hydraulic tube bender at the makerspace….it was donated and no one knows how to use it.

 

There are options for early CJs here (flare or no flare) in case anyone is interested. You would have to weld in your own inner fender.
