I'm swapping a SBC into my CJ5. Will a 4l60E transmission not fit due to length issues? I think I understand my T4 will not stand up the the increased horsepower.

Physically it can occupy that space. Driveshaft length is a major concern especially with a D20. I have a turbo 400 with a D18 and my driveshaft is around 13” long. Novak site lists the 700r/4l60 as an inch longer then the 400.

Usual choice is the shorter TH350. Not many CJ-5s get automatics, and never from the factory, because of the driveshaft length issues.

    Yes, a T-4 is a light-duty transmission.
