    Very nice work, with good detail. If I could make one constructive comment, maybe install the fuel filter after the regulator. Those things have been known to lose little pieces of rubber and raise hell with the carb. I think the alcohol in the gas has something to do with it.

    POWER STEERING HOSE – Fragola Performance Systems

    I've been purchasing a lot of Fragola stuff lately. All USA made and quality. For installing reusable hose ends, a cheap pair of Summit's aluminum vise jaw inserts makes it a lot easier and doesn't bugger up the fittings. Their hose cutter works ok too with the caveat you have to tighten the pivot nut every time you use it. When tight, it makes a clean cut without any stray pieces that can get into the hose. I use the nylon filament strapping tape to keep the braids intact when both cutting and inserting the end into the hose end and then pull it off just after you get that started.

    Got the overflow bottle installed:

    Moved the last two days worth of tools off the table, and moved the table:

    Added some coolant, started it up and pulled outside to let it warm up. Victory!:

    There no less than 4 leaks. The main one of which had nothing to do with the work I did. The stupid nylon line for the oil pressure gauge burst 2 ft into the drive outside. Better at home than out on the road I suppose:

    Capped that off so I could move on and ordered a -4 AN braided line to replace it:

    Next was the radiator drain plug. It was tight from Griffin but had a slow leak. Further tightening made no difference so it was time to drain out the coolant I had just put in. Form-a-Funnel back at work:

    ...until you step away for 3 seconds and the drip moves off the Form-a-Funnel:

    Some Teflon tape on the fitting cured that problem. The final two leaks were both ends of the pressure side power steering hose. The Aluminum adapters I was regretting proved to be regrettable. Tightening the living snot out of the gearbox fitting stopped that leak but the one at the pump leaks no matter how tight you make it.

    At that point, I couldn't warm up the motor to burp the coolant without making a big mess so I put the Jeep away and ordered some steel fittings. I'll get back to it when the parts show up. Kind of depressing, but I've been doing this stuff long enough I half expected it. It would have been more surprising if it went flawlessly.

    I also noticed my motor mounts are completely shot while under there and ordered those too:

    In the meanwhile, I need to get the T18 rebuild kit ordered and start working on the transfer case.

    When I orders motor mounts for my 225, they were not quite the same as the original. Verify they will work the same as what you have now.

    If you don’t mind a little more vibration making it to your seat, I’d highly recommend a different style mount. Every dauntless I’ve had, I couldn’t get the stock mounts out quick enough, or at least chain them down. The low RPM resonance of the dauntless gets those mounts rocking to the point of ripping the trans mount loose and breaking the ear off the T-case.

    Good catch on the motor mounts,could have made a mess of your new shroud....had an oil leak like that on my dozer and ruined the engine..:banghead: :censored:

    I ordered a set of Crown mounts like the ones I put in the 69 last year. The quality looked good at the time and I've had no unpleasant issues with them on the odd-fire. The V8 is much smoother. For backup, I've also ordered a set of Anchor brand Buick Skylark mounts from Rock Auto. I'll pick the best looking of the sets.

    I'm not seeing any other style bolt in mount? To go to a different style of mount would require cutting/welding? I'm not going there when the engine already fits. If I was going to weld new mounts in, then I should just find a junkyard 4.8 or 5.3 LS engine for it.

    I get you're trying to be funny with the old leaky Jeep trope. However, none of these leaks are normal Jeep leaks and they are leaks I tried very hard to prevent. I am very disappointed the Jeep won't be running for another week and your comment just isn't helpful.

  16. we had an oil line go, and it was awful. couldn't do a thing with it. i didn't mean to poke fun at all, it's awful to feel that you're about done then have something catastrophic happen.

    My new fhead engine mount rubber started to split already. :confused: I'm about to remedy that for (hopefully) good.

    Just an idea. If there's room could you use a dom sleeve/bushings to make new engine mounts and then you only need to replace the rubber ends when they wear out. You could keep the old engine frame mounts and such too.

    I have the same brand power steering fittings you do except my junk is 80's and metric. I'll keep an eye on them and my high pressure hose.

    I too hate leaks and feel your pain, especially disappointing after that great stretch of work. Persevere, this too shall pass.

    The setbacks do stink. Especially when they are from areas you didn't expect but, in one regard, it's a good thing because YOUR work has been successful.

    You've got a great JEEP there and a super cool project. It will be worth the wait. And as for those nylon oil lines, I believe it's not an uncommon failure. Copper used to be the standard for those lines I believe.

    I've had 2 of those fuel regulators fail, on separate vehicles. Keep a spare section of fuel line with you, or some remedy, so that you can keep moving if you need to remove it from the system on the trail or the road home from the trail.

    Love your bends with the pipe in the vice.

    We're pulling for ya, Hoss.

    I feel your pain. The project is coming along nice even with a few set backs. Where did you get your radiator?
