Cross Country Trip In A Roxor

LOL...not to rag too much here....but it was a little interesting until the sentence of his wife following him the whole way. And the fact that it was new really didn't make it much of an epic ride. Hell...I'd drive a POS anywhere if I had a support vehicle following. But everyone has their own concepts on
what an adventure is.....not necessarily news worthy.

 

I did . california to virginia . as said "NOT RECOMMEND"
4 - 1/2 days . food was expensive . wouldn't let you nap in bus stations between stops / transfers

got to station here in norfolk at midnight . they lock the doors . out you go

 

Next time, take the Green Tortoise line.

Hippy-dippy bus, very cool. I took it from Seattle to Berkley back in the 80's and would do it again. But the greyhound from Vancouver was miserable.

 

We have a private room booked on a train from socal to the midwest in 2021.

 

This was the first article I've seen that mentions the Roxor's ties to the CJ5. Most of them say something like "tied to the Willys flatfender" or "looks just like a cj7".

 

I spent several days on a train crossing Canada once. We had a booth with open seats in the daytime, and fold-down curtained beds at night. That was ideal IMHO, because it was very sociable, but much more comfortable than coach, while the folks with private rooms seemed rather isolated.

The trip was really wonderful, and very economic - but I understand it is WAY more expensive these days.

 

Isolated is definitely what we're going for, quite honestly.
We wanted to travel while avoiding airports and airlines.
We also wanted to see the country-side.

it's going to be 8 of us (two families) going together - each in our own cabins, for about a 3 day ride. We'll have more than enough time to be social once we get to our destination.

 

Congratulations on driving a brand new vehicle 1200 miles I guess? The ROXOR is a SxS or UTV in name only. It's really not that much different than any other street driven CJ

I just remember that I crossed Malaysia with wife and my 2 young boys in a Proton... Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan.
The Proton had air conditionned noisy youngest boy was saying. when do we arrive, there was plenty of wood trucks on the road, the steering wheel had 1/4 turn delay to react, driving was on the English side, it was very hot and when we arrive our hotel was fully boo'ed and we had to find something urgently!!
This is probably why I don't remember.
The hotel was not for tourists, chinese people, no A/C but noisy turning ventilators.
Mosquitos.
It was a big chinese event so the made karaoke late in the night.
The view from windows was nice, a tropical river.
When I pick the car the next morning I had a fine on the windshield.
Then we had a nice stay at Cherating Clubmed, mosquitos were coming only at nite.
I took the Proton with children and friends to a diving place near Thailand border, 160 km.
Thet were sorts of pirats.
They forget us on an island some time, then their boat came but stopped on a sand bench.
They looked with interest at my diving knife on my ankle.
I was with 2 women and 3 children, all went well, it was interesting.

Then again Proton to Singapore ....

So yes I had some driving experience.
Maybe this is why now I don't want to drive except locally.... preferently with my nice CJ 5.

 

I took the Amtrak from Reno, Nevada to here and it was something around 4 days? It wasn't a bad experience but I would've been more comfortable sleeping in a car not to mention being able to stop for a bath every day.

There was this girl from NY beside me that was a talker and she was talking about things out loud that most people consider private information. Also, her boyfriend and she had a falling out on the telephone. I couldn't think for her yelling and then crying for the next four or five hours. Well, I bought some earbuds in Chicago and the trip was much more enjoyable after that. That was the poverty class car.

1300 miles in a new vehicle. Yawn.

 

My son's 8th grade trip was suppose to go to Washington DC. 911 happen and things changed. They did not go because the parents of one kid did not want him to fly. The whole trip was cancelled because of this. The new trip was take charter busses from Louisville to St Louis, spend the night in St. Louis, then take a Amtrak from St. Louis to Chicago. Well Amtrak was running 1 or 2 days behind schedule. Had to take the bus to Chicago. Was looking forward to the train ride, but did not happen. Never been on a train. Would love to take Amtrak thru Colorado and points west.

 

Pretty much normal from what I've heard. Although I went NH to DC on Amtrak a few years ago, and it was just fine.

 

....and only one tape for the stereo?

 

We took a train from DC to Williamsburg, Va in 2019. Only about a 5-6 hour ride, IIRC, but very nice/scenic.

 

Moved an oversized load once from Houston Texas to the mouth of the McKenzie river on the Arctic Ocean in the Northwest Territories of Canada took 32 days that was a road trip.
