Was the Jeep ever driven after installing the new clutch but before installing the hydraulic linkage? You mention that the clutch was installed three years ago. If the clutch was working prior to the hydraulic conversion perhaps you simply have a stuck clutch disc - especially if the Jeep has been sitting a while as the work took place.

I can shift into every gear when out of keep, Verified that upon installing last time. Clutch disk is installed correct, wasn’t getting enough travel with original pivot ball, got adjustable one and it travels better and less slack in clutch. My slave is backed off all the way and have about 1/4 play before it is engaged. Will be checking clutch hub/finger, etc. next time we get time to take out transmission again and will measure as much as we can. Ordered a new pilot bushing because the original is still in.

It was not driven after installing new clutch. Upon purchasing, it drove, I began tearing it down and modifying brakes and what not and prepping for paint, overhauling, etc. after installing it all back on keep had to get engine fires up, after all that we began finishing inside and we’re going to take it out for test drive. Started but didn’t move. Was told to try starting it in gear. Did and it moved about a foot. But wouldn’t shift out of gear after that so I had to shut it down and push it back to dislodge shifter.

    Something is binding

pilot bushing a good idea. But I still think you aren’t getting enough throw on the pressure plate..

When I get time to drop the transmission and look, I’ll take pictures and update but if any other ideas come in, I will accept them as much as others. Love this site, so helpful and great advice from all..

I'll say it again - check the torque specs for the pressure plate you put in. It was an issue on one of mine as it varied from the stock spec.

I had this same issue once, I racked my brain for months trying to figure out why I couldn't shift into 1st gear. Found out through trial and error and taking it apart again that i did not tighten my pressure plate evenly enough and it lead to it binding the clutch up. I had to take the pressure plate loose get all the bolts started again, aligner tool back in position. Then very carefully tighten down each bolt with an even amount of turns in a star pattern. Seems so simple but that's that was causing me this exact same problem. Once I got the pressure plate reinstalled and to the proper torque spec, no issues.

That's my two cents hope it helps.

I been looking for an alignment tool. What did you use.. looked for universal but a lot had bad reviews. And Kaiser doesn’t have one for 225 v6

I believe I just got one off of Rock Auto and it worked just fine. I will check in my tool box tonight to see if I can get the numbers off of it for you. Of course if you don't trust it, you can always find a used input shaft off of ebay from a T14. I see those all the time. My pop used to always use an old input shaft from a junk transmission to line stuff up, it's definantly the "old school way" but effective.

Plastic alignment tool comes in the box with the clutch. I may have a spare. I'll try to remember to look tonight.

Be sure to push - up a touch on it as you set things in line. The clutch can settle. If Scott does not have one, PM me. I've got a couple floating around the shop.

I may purchase one but so many are out there. Anyone know what size alignment tool I need for the T90 to 225 V6...

This is the type you can usually rent from a parts store, or they are not that much to buy... and your going to have the right one as it's universal. Match the Pilot bushing, slide the clutch disk on the tappered shaft as it only requires the inner size of the splines to match up. I used these before getting the plastic ones that 'fit' the clutch disk

I bought a universal one, figured it may be something I may need again if issues persist. I appreciate the help. I hope I can get this clutch issue straightened out.

So I took it all alert. Fixed the leak on my TC ( emergency brake side) I may of but it in backwards. It still holds fluid though so I’m wondering if it matters much. Was no description on how it were to be installed. Anywho, was a bear to get pressure plate off. Seemed it may of been on too tight. Also I’m looking at my pilot bushing.. it looks fine from what I see. I’ll post a pic and you tell me.. I have one but seems I have to bore it out a bit to fit over shaft.

The bushings looks fine - as long as it’s the correct slip fit for the transmission input shaft.

There is usually a small round spring that holds the seal tight. The oil seals always go in with the spring facing the oil.

Yea I put it that way with the spring to the oil but seems odd. Because the runner is facing that way as well. And my measurements for the bushing is .75 where my shaft is .63. Seems like a little too much play
