I’ve been struggling tte best way to move forward. I am asking if anyone has part or model numbers for the power steering box they used for conversion or otherwise.

I have a Saginaw now but need to replace or rebuild. Depending on cost of either way may decide for me but need to price a PS Gear and compare turn ratio etc.

    Thanks.

Please remove box and count turns lock to lock and then count input and output splines. Then just tell us if the pressure lines use an o-ring or a flare fitting. Should be able to tell you what you have after you get that info.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

Looks like a manual box ?
An intermediate CJ manual box might work. (Jeep p/n 994509, 1972-1976)
Don't know about your drop pitman arm.

No it’s power steering. The previous PO just pinched off the lines as I don’t think they could ever find a bracket for the pump for a 198. I finally did after a long time searching and I have tried to hook it up but it leaks. So that’s why I need a replacement. So still looking for the power steering pump numbers from hopefully somebody.

Great! Thanks. Gives me something to look into to start.

Did you have to use those fittings as you already had hoses you needed it to connect to that were different fitting ends?

Also, do you know the turn ratio lock to lock?

Below are the specs for the box....the box ports are "seat" and the fittings above fit the pressure and return port. Depending on the pump you are using you will may need the other fitting (O ring style) for the pressure port on the pump. The return on the pump is clamp style. I had hoses made up at hose power that were #6 JIC flare female which connected to the fittings. Google Russell Power steering adaptors....

Thank you. One thing i have trying to research is if the 4ish ration is better or safer to the quicker ratios. I have a pretty small steering wheel on there right now, so not sure which would work better with that, not to mention a jeep since these boxes have typically been in larger heavier cars.

Fast ratio can be used but I believe the general consensus is that a short wheelbase Jeep is better with a slower ratio /more turns lock to lock, it tends to be less "twitchy".
The smaller steering wheel makes for a slightly quicker action as compared to a larger wheel.
